hehe I did also, TDK was ok but I did prefer Iron Man in 2008 then TDK. I like Batman Begins more then TDK actualy. It's far from a bad movie but it did not catch on to me the same as it seem to be on a lot of people, also a lot of hype for it more then anything else I think? I can't wait to re-visit this in 5 years time and check those who claim TDK is the greatest movie ever and see where it now stand in their mind, I have some idea it won't be as high.

Not trying to threadcrap, etc., but I agree with a poster above: I don't have any movie because of its fans.

It's not a philosophical thing. I hate plenty of teams (cough --- Florida Gators --- cough) and musical acts because of their fans.

I have to agree. I was blown away by TDK. Totally loved the film but what's with all the hyperbole? Greatest of all time? I don't know...

Like you I also have a sweet spot for Batman Begins that makes it very hard for me to pick TDK over it. However I do like it better than Iron Man though (which I loved too)

Kind of the reverse to the thread question, but the Internet trashing of the latest Indiana Jones film just make me enjoy it even more (as he goes flying through the air I just imaging all those who claim the original trilogy was never wacky like this screaming in anguish on there first viewing).

Oh! that is just another argument we don't want to start again But I agree I don't see how someone can claim that Indy 4 is garbage compare to the other movies, all 4 are Indy movies with the same silly jokes, over the top action and impossible stunts. That's what Indy is all about.

The problem is that too many people see to take their hatred now of Lucas (other thing I sure don't get) to very unhealthy levels. I swear if Lucas was part of Band Of Brothers, everyone on the net would be destroying this series instead of praising it, just because they see his names somewhere in the credits

Across The Universe: I can never give this movie a fair shot, good or bad, simply because of the artsy girls (specifically, one girl) who annoyed the shit out of me during my first viewing of the trailer. Saw it during Spiderman 3 and this one girl with a group of us was freaking out the whole time and eventually declared it the "best movie ever."

Transformers 2: I feel as a loyal Batman supporter last summer that this movie is somehow competition, and I was glad to see it get shit reviews because I always found the first one overrated (yet I own it on BD, still not sure why).

Twilight: We watched the baseball scene and it was so very stupid and lame. It actually disappoints me when female friends of mine admit to LOVING this movie, far too trendy and easy.

And had to add and repeat what has already been said...

The Dark Knight: I love this rebooted franchise and still really enjoy Batman Begins (I'll have to wait a few years to make a comparison), but I can see how people are annoyed with the fanbase (that I was apart of last summer). Months later, I reflected that it was not infact the greatest movie ever and had flaws. The Oscar freakout was enough to make me just embarassed to be a fan of the movie.

there's no movie i simply hate because of fans. if i like or dislike a movie, it's because of factors based solely on the movie's production (story, casting, acting, cinematography, music, etc), not public appeal or fanbase. that being said, there are a great many movies where the hysteria of crazed fans all over the world and internet has turned me off from wanting to see a movie (harry potters come to mind), but has never really prevented me from doing so

I wouldn't say I hate a movie because of its fans. Due to the sometimes rampant lunacy of the fanbase I do however refrain (now) from discussions of:
Star Wars
Star Trek
Transformers
Dark Knight
directors
actors

basically I rarely post in this section of the board *cough* signature *cough* because many simply cannot understand how someone else can disagree with them without being incompetent, an idiot, not a film lover etc...

LOL to all that support that argument I refer them to the following:

Temple of Doom: Is it just me or did Indy and the gang jumped off an airplane IN A LIFERAFT with no parachute fell on a mountaintop, went off a cliff and survived?

Temple of Doom: The entire mine cart sequence. Need I say more?

Me three. Iron Man was much, much, better than TDK.

I'm adding The Dark Knight to the list of movies I'm starting to hate because of the fan(boys)s.

It's pretty sad to read, especially here at this site, how many people actually think it was the greatest movie ever. A BATMAN MOVIE, GREATEST FILM EVER. Seriously?

I agree, in 5 years there will be some other fad starring an underrated-while-he-was-alive actor that will hype train its way into these pathetic souls and we'll have to hear about THAT movie for a while as well.

The Dark Knight.
One has only to look at the "Dark Knight versus Watchmen" for examples. One negative comment about TDK and TDK fans take it personally. Not to mention the "GREATST MVIE EVR !!!" people.

I don't see what is wrong with thinking a Batman movie is the best film ever made (for reference I love the movie a lot, but don't think it is the best movie ever)

Why does a movie have to be about a certain thing (or not about a certain thing) to be eligible for people to think it is the greatest film ever made?

At least in my case, sure cant speak for anyone else, it is not a matter that a Batman film can't be the best movie ever. A great film can come from anywhere and any genre. My guess is the general complain is what you just mentioned: Yes, the film is great(awsome if you ask me) but lets not blow it out of proportion. Not because its a Batman film but becasue it is clearly evident that it's not the greatest of all time.

Edit: And I'm saying this, despite the fact that TDK is in my own personal top 15.

I completely agree with that. That is why it irks me when people write off the possibility that is actually one of the best films in a long time (or ever for some people) simply because it is a Batman film. If they do so because they didn't like it, I'm completely fine with that. But to write it off because of its subject matter is just ignorant to me.

But for saying it is clearly not the best film ever made, I wouldn't go that far simply because I consider that a very subjective honor. I see a lot of people say that Citizen Kane, Highlander, Blade Runner, Godfather II, etc. are the best films ever made, and I don't agree whatsoever with those statements.

fans don't influence if i like a movie or not, but i do hate theatres more than usual if fanboys are there too. fanboys can ruin a movie for everyone else.

i went to star wars episode 1 about 3 months after release thinking the nerd saturation be somewhat durable by then. not quite. a lone (obviously) nerd who brought his plastic light saber decided to sit behind me and (i presume) memorize the choreography of every battle and mirror it in real-time. if his toy had gotten low enough i would've grabbed and snapped it.

I see people have said this already but I really didn't have one until today as a matter of fact. TDK....For some reason they seem to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yeah its a good movie and it will eventually be topped...thats how it works one movie raises the bar and then something else comes along and smashes it....Also I would have to include Harry Potter fans....as i do enjoy the movies and have never read the books but some fans are just obsessed with it. I went and saw the newest one a few days after it came so the crowds wouldn't be so bad but it seem like every fan boy was in there that night. A guy i would say in his twenties sitting a few rows down from me was applauding the movie the entire time. I mean actually clapping and cheering when things were happening in the movie. I don't know about you guys but I find that to be a bit strange and extreme..

Oh and Im not sure but there use to be a video out there on youtube of some kid doing a drive by spoiler of the latest harry potter book. (this was a few years ago) He did this as people were waiting outside a barnes & noble waiting to get the book. Absolutely funny video....
