Hi. There's a 3d version that's $14.96 on amazon right now, but there's a disclaimer box that says:
"Playback Region B/2 : This will not play on most Blu-ray players sold in North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Learn more about Blu-ray region specifications here". The review page on this site containing the link for the $14.96 version says it's region free, but the photo of the cover says "bluray3d+bluray+digital" at the top, whereas the photo on amazon (that the "buy now" link send you to) says "bluray3d+bluray", so I'm guessing there's mix up somewhere. Long story short: is the region b warning on amazon correct? (I have a region free player (seiki) but it won't play 3d) Thanks |

I've long been under the impression that all 3D Blu-rays are region-free, ergo it would only be the standard Blu-ray in this set that would be unplayable on a region-locked U.S. standard Blu-ray player. But that disc would be playable on your region-free player, since again it's the standard Blu and not the 3D that's region-locked. Did you buy it? Am I right? Or did the conflicting claims prevent a sale? My own question to all the folks in this thread, though, is that while the Blu-ray.com link says it's for the 3D version, and the Amazon product photo at that page shows the U.S. 3D front cover, in five other places in that listing it says this product is not the 3D version but rather the regular Blu-ray. This is a pattern I've puzzled over before at Amazon. Is it the single photo of the 3D release that's erroneous, or is it the four places the listing has a chance to tell you it's 3D but fails to do so, plus the fact that the little format button for that listing is the regular Blu-ray and not the 3D? |

Yikes. That's good to know. Especially as I was just over on Amazon.co.uk putting together a cart.
I wonder how many international Blu-rays that I've bought and not tried to watch yet aren't actually playable on my device anyway. Is there some kind of key on the site to which companies' 3D Blu-rays are region-free, or do you have to go title by title to the listings here (most of which seem to say untested)? |

As for a key, what I do is put region coding information into the title of EVERY 3D movie thread and often the first post too if there are variations to note. This thread has [Region Free] in the title which means the film is region free wherever you buy it. |

Thanks for the reply and the link. I searched your first page for several of the titles in my cart and none of them were mentioned, but armed with the knowledge not all 3D titles are region-free, I went back and removed a couple that actually said PAL (which I thought had been describing the standard Blu). I'm going to come back when I'm fresher and skim through the rest of that thread.
What makes it so tricky is, as cvarrick mentions in their post, the Amazon listing for this title neglects to list it as 3D anywhere on the page (outside of the photo) and then actually puts a disclaimer template saying it's Region B and won't play. I take levcore's word that all Warner Bros Blu-rays are region-free, but given that, then the Amazon seller's listing is clearly wrong, which makes all the Amazon listings for the other titles seem untrustworthy, especially for those which—like this one—don't even actually specify that they're 3D anywhere in their descriptions other than the photo. Love your commitment to 3D, I'm with ya! Happy New Year! |

Unfortunately Amazon listings are often very wrong, they often fill out details on a generic placeholder basis and subsequently fail to update them. Their listing for BR2049 is a real mess, it's not surprising you got confused. This site is better but many discs remain untested to confirm the status. For this forum I have checked the status of every 3D Blu-ray that has a thread, if someone confirms that a locked title is actually region free (or the other way around) then the thread gets updated. Of course, a region-free player (or one locked to whichever region you aren't in) is an essential purchase for any movie collector, 3D or otherwise. |

In a movie

Popped this one in last night, it's been a while since I watched it. And boy o boy, what a delight it was again. I had forgotten just how good the 3d is in this movie.
The story is still beautiful and how much gorgeous scenes can exist in one movie? I rarely compare editions, but I wanted to see how the really great 3d final snowscene was on the UHD. It loses so much of the impact on the UHD, the 3d just adds so much more. What a movie. |

The US version is the only 3D disc in the world with lossless audio, all other versions have a lossy Dolby Digital track only, which to me is completely unacceptable. |

That's interesting, thank you for this info.
I wonder if there is any perceivable difference in the video. I have not messed with remuxing 3D blu-rays yet, though I have ordered a playback device to play frame-packed 3D files, so hopefully I can take advantage of that in the future. But generally I avoid buying anything with lossy audio only. I'm also not Atmos capable yet, but plan to be someday, at which point I would be highly motivated to remux 3D video with Atmos audio. |

Apologies in advance because I've said this so many times. But if the Atmos/DTS:x audio mix is good, then 3D Audio + 3D Video is next level. Upmixing DTS-HD to the height speakers can also provide a nice experience and for the not so good Atmos/DTS:x tracks it might even be better.

I know. and I almost wrote that on my post, but I feel like that is cheating, and the movie just ends abruptly. Reminds me of a dvd edition I had from The Myth where the end credits were on a different disc, to maximise the video bitrate. I hated it.

It's ungainly. This and the Cinavia titles prompted me to go the NAS route. Good to have both though.
