Nice! Hopefully Universal does more MOD 4Ks like Renfield and other films we haven't got on 4K yet.
It would be great to see more than two titles up for pre-order next time. If the intention is for all of these to go MOD, at least in the US, then Universal have quite a bit of catching up to do as they have a lot of Blu-ray-only theatrical releases in the past few years.
By the same token, a couple of their MOD discs so far have had problems, so hopefully 2024 sees an uptick in both quantity and quality.

Trouble is, how do they gauge whether a market is there for a UHD of x movie in the first place? Rightly or wrongly it still has a reputation for being the most esoteric of currently available formats, and as most such consumers only care about how much the picture "pops" (ugh) without nasty grain stuff and how loudly their three subwoofers are made to growl then movies like this are seen as a harder sell, again, rightly or wrongly. If something does good numbers on Blu then by the laws of percentages there should be enough of a 4K userbase to make such a release worthwhile...but they ain't gonna know until they know. You know?

Very true. I totally understand the model. It's the most logical one from their point of view, since they're a business and not an arts charity, which film buffs sometimes seem to think studios are. It's just sad that there isn't a better model.

Sure, I understand your frustration with it. Why they can't do something as simple as a poll is beyond me. Sony did one a few years ago and we're still seeing stuff mentioned in that poll (or rather, polls, as it was several in one) being released in whatever form, ie standalone or in the CC boxsets.

I think the biggest issue is that some of these studios seem out of touch with the 4K market. They are picking titles and creating photoshop artwork, as if they are still trying to sell stuff to soccer moms walking by endcap displays in Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.
Have to agree with James. It should have been 4K from the start. The only reason I bought the Blu was, when I saw there was no 4K version, I assumed 4K would never come. Bugg, yes and it's sad.

On the other hand, for titles like this, they probably chose not to do a UHD at first because it didn't do well at the theatrical box office. However, it must have sold very well on BD, or they wouldn't be issuing a UHD.
