I like reading posts in threads like this. Sure, most of it is fluff and arguing about the same-o same-o, but there are some gems here and there. Keeps me invigorated.

I will not buy this disc ever in this current universe if it's the same transfer as the streaming releases. No number of bits will fix the mess of ALIENS in its current releasable 4k state.

But I still love reading what y'all have to say!

Finally... if this transfer is fixed before being pressed to disc, I would shit my pants multiple times with happiness. First time I would say that I will shit myself, and be happy about it! (Well, the second time I'd say that, but I won't talk about the FIRST time in these forums!)

If by some miracle the final transfer has been improved over the current digital stream version then I would be extremely happy.

But with early reviews for the digital releases for JC slate of titles mostly singing uncritical effusive praise the likelihood for any changes are nil.

I paid my $4 to stream this travesty, made some posts of my observations, but keep checking in periodically hoping some miracle has happened and that God-awful POS isn't actually what we are going to get on disc.

They won't get one cent from me further unless it is a completely different master made for disc, and it turns out this one was just mucked with because they assumed people would be watching it on phones or something.

Not to mention, I'm still paying attention because it's really difficult to turn away from a train wreck - I honestly cannot imagine anyone actually watching this transfer who is going to think it's acceptable, even if they don't care about grain/etc.

I'm not exaggerating - I wish I was - this is not the expected "yeah, he's going to DNR the hell out of this" that we all knew was going to be an issue.

It's so far beyond that. They literally are etching rotoscope looking lines all over everything - and it's so clear it's done by AI and not an artist, because it messes up in such odd yet predictable ways. When people start picking out all the disappearing/reappearing errors on faces and bodies you see in motion, I just can't imagine even the idiots on Reddit thinking this looks good on any level whatsoever.

I almost said that LOL - you know there will be a few - but seriously, it just is that bad that I feel confident even the majority of them will think the same.

Watching the first big action scene when the grunts are sneaking into the colony is very unfortunately etched (pun completed intended) into my brain - it looks now like a bunch of outtakes or costume fittings filmed on videotape behind the scenes, that now that they somehow digitally detailed up.

Throughout this, and True Lies, I just cannot fathom how they thought making everyone look like they were digitally inserted into scenes was an improvement. Like, actors in the same frame all look like they were shot at different times, and then digitally assembled like some bad pandemic-era Netflix movie. The AI clearly "learns" the actors and paints them all individually differently with different effects, no matter what shot or scene they are in, so when they are in scenes together it's simply bizarre.

The kicker is - a better encode/higher bit rate really can't help this (because otherwise, I'd be the first person to say "let's see it when it comes out"), if anything, it will just make all this worse. It's also the opposite of normal, where you can often say "it looks different in motion" - which is still true here, but the screenshots just can't convey just how completely ef'd this looks in motion.

But again, if this turns out to be some false alarm, and there is somehow a version coming out on 4K disc that was completely differently mastered, I'll be the first person to fork out the cash and I'll even handwrite Cameron a thank you/apology letter. I'm not going to rush out and buy any stamps, though, as I think the chances of that being the case are about the same as Tom Cruise showing up at my house and asking me if I wanted a ride on his motorcycle. (And truth be told, I love this movie so much, I'd pick a great transfer on disc versus Tom...)
