Default Jumping on Trolls

Wow! I just read the one thread that ended in profanity and name calling... Pretty much a school yard fight... I have a question. I have been posting here for a while now and I have to ask, what is with people just freaking out about trolls? Instead of randomly going "TROLL!!! TROLL!!! RIP HIS HEART OUT AND BURN HIS SOUL!!!", maybe people should focus on educating these people about the advantages Blu-Ray. Don't just sit there calling them a troll, actually take the time to respond to them and let them know. Otherwise you just end up as bad (if not worse) than they are. It just ends up looking like you don't have a legitimate response for them. So instead of sitting here going "HD-Dud sucks!" and using imature slogans like we're in some sort of freaky cult, just take the time to answer these peoples questions. Unless they're obviously coming here just to bash Blu-Ray. Then you can scream troll. But if they're asking questions, just answer them in a mature way.

Sometimes you can just tell there is no point engaging in a dialogue.

Do you have a link to the thread of the alleged trolling incident?

I usually try to talk sense into people about BD vs HD-DVD, but the only ones that won't listen and spout FUD and troll themselves are the stubborn HD-DVD fanboys that are also probably big M$ fans.

I didn't!
I posted my views on the whole Home HD arena (PQ = Priority 1) and informed him that Blu wins - because it does!

I love reading on this forum how when we go to HD DVD forums we get called names and get made fun of just because we support the other format. I do agree that we need to answer questions. That last thread that got closed was merely asking if blu-ray will ever have the feature capabilities of HD DVD. The response he got was TROLL - BAN HIM ect ect. Nice response. Those who respond that way must work or GW Bush's administration, "What, you are questioning the war?! You must be a terrorist!" Nice work fellow members. Real good.

I posted that after reading his other post on another thread which had all the usual talking points about Pioneer going neutral etc...

You can tell when someone is not asking a genuine question. This guy was not asking a genuine question. Clearly either a troll or a shill.

Yup. He said he leaned blu in on post but in his previous post he said he leans red.

I wonder whether he was here to cause trouble .

It does seem to be after looking at his past posts that he indeed was trolling.
He was using "my brother" technique to claim 300 sells better in HD-DVD than BD, which is not true since the Neilson numbers (which include Best Buy) show that the BD version is outselling HD-DVD 2:1.
His brother might work at Best Buy, but for all we know he is a part-timer who works in the album section and knows little about the HDTV area. It has no weight and he should have simply been ignored.
What's more is he quickly started cussing out users and seemed to really like to spread FUD that we've heard 1000X before with no links, evidence, or anything. And he was always in the HD-DVD side of things.
I do think the post was handled very poorly! People should grow up and not be so defensive and quick-to-anger over petty things like this. I simply would have requested that he be banned since his questions were not sincere and was merely trying to post FUD.
Problem is that the responses he got were rather immature and that reflects on the entire Blu-ray community. Now he is likely to go back to his HD-DVD pals and spread more FUD about how he was treated.
Please people, GROW UP. Stop and think before you post. Be mature and don't be so quick to try to respond to trolling. He could have become a convert if we showed him links and evidence that would have put his arguments to rest. Now he is likely to spread bad publicity about BD even more.

i don't know. i appreciate the OP's sentiment, and if it were a real genuine question that said suspected troll was posing, i would agree.

however, i think it's funny that we've noticed a definite uptick in the number of no-talent assclown tardnugget HD DVD fanboys who've started showing here looking for a fight while pretending to be newbies or neutral or whatever.

as if the usual outlets for their fuddy mcfuddy crap weren't enough, they want to pollute other places too.

HD-DUD fanboys should be ignored or banned. Nothing positive comes from interacting with them. THE blu forum at AVS has more posts by HD-DUD fanboy threadjackers than serious Blu-ray discussion. By the time someone has become a fanboy, no amount of reasoning will have any effect.

You're right. I'm guilty of this so next time I'll either ignore or try and answer. Us Blu fans are better than this.

Yeah, he might have been here to cause trouble. And guess what, we unshelthed our swords (pretty nerdy) and gave him Maximus with thumbs down (Dreamworks movie - you could have at least pick a blu exclusive movie). We gave him trouble. We responded to his post with swearing and threats. Instead of being the superior format that we are, we were the immature format. Let's step up our maturity here. I believe that being a blu blood is not blinding support for the format (Nazi's had pieces of flare they made the Jews wear [not sure how that applies but I thought it was funny]) Being blu blooded also means knowing more and being smarter than the competition, not childish.

Agreed, I think I could have handled that better, but it just reminded me of all the arguments with that David Vaughn guy... and look where that got us, we ended up losing P-Man.

Yeah I called him a troll on a different thread. He said 300 was selling better on HDDVD than bluray. Also Pioneer is a huge BD supporter so why would they start making hddvd drives? All his comments were pro HDDVD. His post basically was "HDDVD has better interactivity, all companies are going neutral anyways, and movies sell way better in HDDVD" and that was it.

COME ON NOW hes clearly a troll.Trolls intentionally spread misinformation, so theres no reason whatsoever to try to talk sense to them.

Its easy to tell when someone has a real question. He didnt ask "When will bluray get interactive features?" he basically asked "when will bluray catch up to HDDVD?" thats a trolls question.

I help people when they have real questions, but I call out trolls when i see them.

Actually it sounded like he had some pretty legitimate questions there. He obviously didn't know about the whole Blu-Ray Java thing, so someone could've told him about that. But immediately he was called a troll. And you said it was judging from his past posts... Wasn't that question really only his second post ever? His first post was saying how HD-DVD had features that Blu-Ray didn't which is true. Maybe people just don't like to hear things like that? Maybe someone could've responded with "Well Blu-Ray has PCM and HD-DVD doesn't, and that takes up quite a bit of space. Right now it seems Blu-Ray is focussing more on quality than features." I think SS316SRV brought up some very good points. We have a forum here with a lot more people than the HD-DVD forum. We need to show people we're not like them if they actually are calling us names over there. Just ignore them. I think people need to actually ignore HD-DVD all together, but that's just me. But seriously, people around here need to cool off. It's fine to be proud of Blu-Ray, I know I am. But it's not fine to flip out at people right away just because their views might be different. We now made this person hate Blu-Ray even more because he was called a troll right off the bat because he said something someone didn't want to hear. I think if people continue down this road, more and more people will hate Blu-Ray and I wouldn't blame them. If I had come to this forum today instead of whenever I did, I wouldn't join. People are acting nuts around here.

Although I do agree that the whole "throw him under the bridge!" or "die evil troll!!" is a bit much. I just call them trolls and leave them at that.

Also one of the favorite things for trolls to mention is that they're "neutral" by having both formats, but they cant help but be drawn to HDDVD.

well, you can't deny the phenomenon of HD DVD trolls showing up on these forums looking for trouble.

case in point: https://forum.blu-ray.com/search.php?searchid=167815

this emjay guy posts on HDD. he's openly a HD DVD fanboy there.
