Got "Top Cat" & "Box Office" from italy today. Box Office was on a top 3d list these days here and Top Cat was the last item, so I hope it is worth it. Also hope i made no mistake buying these 2, because i had to pay shipment per item and it was a bit pricy with 35 Euro all together.

For what it's worth I liked them both. Box Office was actually funnier than the criticisms it got. Top Cat is pure memory lane. |

ONWARDS 3/5
Watched my UK copy last night and thought the movie was ok. It isn’t one of Pixar’s best, but I felt like the subject matter might have been too mature to enjoy as a kids movie. I lost my dad about 8 years back and so it hit differently for me I think (much like Alice Through the Looking Glass, which I liked better then the first) Animation as usual is stunning looking, sound kinda neutered but good surround effects. The 3d isn’t anything special/amazing but I did enjoy the added dimensional effects for the enclosed area, but especially in the depth department. I think I had one or 2 small pop outs but that was all. Glad I have the disc, but wish movie were slightly funnier. |

Rewatched Everest. Great movie and outstanding 3D, some awesome vertigo effects. The Atmos track is very good. As you might have noticed I’m revisiting all my 3D movies with Atmos tracks. Don’t miss this one!
Edit: next up Mockingjay 1&2. Last edited by Okiephile; 01-24-2024 at 10:46 PM. |

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER 3/5
Thank God that Disney was kind enough to give us 3D fans/users a physical 3D disc release to purchase. Watched tonight on my projector at 106” and was your 3D was the main attraction of the film. I love James Cameron and what he has given us story wise over the years of his career, along with his visual eye for film too. Sadly I find his Avatar films a little generic but are a must see if you have a 3D set to take advantage of. It looks stunning from seaweed and tree foliage appearing out of the screen in front of our characters. Pretty cool seeing characters running at you with heated flying bullets shooting out beyond them hitting you. Plot wise, I pretty much saw who would probably die/saved for future film plots. I liked the chemistry of the family and the underwater scenes looked amazing. This probably looks good with 4K/HDR on a good set as well, but I see why some waited to see these movies in theatres 3D wise. Well, from personal experience while working during the first films theatrical release. Also wanna say that they have thankfully improved the audio on their disc releases but still want deeper LFE action. If you remember the first blu-ray release of Finding Nemo and its whale sounds on that disc. I want that deep ****ing rattle the basement foundation sub action again. We have tons of “whales” in this film, but never reach that rattle the house to the ground sub action. Anyways, I’m game for the third movie and I hope I get some sort of 3D release/stream for that as well |

I watched the first few minutes of "Top Cat" 3D yesterday. I was very unsure whether I should buy the 3D Blu-ray or not. But the thought that I might have made a bad purchase immediately vanished into thin air. A great graphic style for an animated film and the film looks really fresh with lots of colors. Didn't even begin to expect such great quality. The 3D really looks great, I didn't expect that. A successful addition to any 3D Blu-ray collection and a true insider tip.

Just again watched The Angry Birds Movie. Been so long since last taken off the shelf was like seeing it again for the first time.
Though personally finding Angry Birds geared more towards children (an observation, not a criticism) it's still a fun and enjoyable animated feature that looks great in 3D. Excellent combination of depth and spatial separation with pleasing color saturation and detail. Very much recommended. |

Just again watched Alpha et Omega. A wonderful family animated film for kids of all ages.
Outstanding 3D and picture quality albeit a necessity for an additional commentary below. Depth and spatial separation are excellent. Some amazing popouts as well. The color palate is outstanding and successfully recreates the dinstinctive moonlit and early sunrise atmospheric feel of both the Canadian Rockies and American midwest. And there's plenty of detail. But there is an important negative one must be honest about. The picture is a bit out of focus causing eyestrain and ocassional shimmering. Fortunately was able to rectify this problem by increasing my Darbee setting higher than normal. Thats the reason for two contradicting commentaries. Though I have the French edition, noticed a similar comment regarding the German release (both are region B and include English audio) by Gert on Amazon Germany: "+ strengths: + Aspect ratio 1.78 screen filling + Stereoscopic programmed + Good graduation in huge depth + Fatty flying camera — Weakness: Stupidly programmed depth blur — this is not 3D!" So unless one also has a Darbee video processor (along with an all region player) I cannot fully recommend Alpha et Omega with the negative curtailing its many positives. Had the Darbee processor been unable to correct this issue the disc would have been disappointing (though personally still glad it's part of my collection since it also cannot be described as "unwatchable"). Watched Mockingjay pt. 1. I like the whole series and the 3D Atmos track ramps this up to a new level. I have the German, region B double feature. Highly recommended if your so equipped.
