Well, how it's defined and how it's used can always vary...

I've been told by a Dolby engineer that TrueHD 'has a core stream of 5.1 AC3 audio to guarantee playback on all older Dolby decoders'.

In that sentence, it sure makes it sound like 'core' means 'legacy'. Again, I'm sure it was just an accidental mis-use of a term, but that mis-use is becoming more common unfortunately...

But I do understand what you are saying, and what the core really is... The term is just getting bastardized...
