Same here. I’m on the lowest “Essential” tier right now, but I’d upgrade my subscription if it meant I could do 3D.

Blu ray 3D playback would be a big improvement for the PSVR2's usefulness beyond games. Sony pushed it out to compete with Quest 2 and 3, but then Sony does very little to push the limits of PSVR2 beyond the basics. Sony is just scraping by with the minimum effort with PSVR2 it seems as of January 2024.

I'd totally be down for 3D Blu's in PSVR2, I have a lot of 3D blu-rays still bought in anticipation of getting a 3D tv (never happened).

That being said, I got the headset for gaming personally so if it never came I won't hold it against Sony. I'm not sure how I'd feel after a while about not using my TV for watching movies.

I’m sure Apple will keep things proprietary to their devices, but given that the Apple Store is now showing 3D versions of movies and Apple TV has a PlayStation app, I wonder if there’s any chance of those movies ever being compatible on the PSVR2 in 3D.

It would be up to Sony and Apple. Hopefully they work something out.

It seems like one of the cheapest ways to enhance the appeal of the device without a hardware update/first party games (though I do hope for the latter).

What is frustrating is when I try to write to Sony PSVR2 directly, there is no way to reach their feedback group. How do they even know what gamers want? I guess enough groups have to complain in large, mass numbers for them to notice anything.

"Sony, offer a blu ray 3D or at the very least, a 3D movie option on PSVR2 if you want to offer more options for stereo 3D fans, of which everyone using a PSVR1 and 2 would need to be, since almost all the games are already in stereo 3D". Who is in charge at Sony's PSVR2's department? I don't understand what they're doing. Maybe they're looking at statistics and saying "Oh, this group is too small to worry about, so don't worry about 3D movies on PSVR2" or something. I don't know.

DMM is a media company in Japan and their streaming app is VR aware and has the option to stream 3D movies (presumably in stereoscopic 3D). I wonder if there’s anything stopping Vudu, Apple, or anyone else from making a VR aware version of their apps for PSVR2?

On a sheet somewhere, I'm sure the cost for licensing 3D (from the BDA or other org) and patching has been compared to a potential audience and that's why it's not in the works, demand isn't there to bother. The only way I've been able to contact Sony is via a "local" tech when I chose solving an issue because that was the only way I could find a way to directly contact anyone as opposed to being directed towards FAQ. The person was nice, but obviously in no position to run this up to Corporate.

The best chance at a patch is for the Apple Vision Pro to make 3D "trend" and Sony to read the memo online. It's likely deemed more profitable to expand your consumer base than cater to the ones already in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Edit: my roommate still has an active 3D TV and made watching Silent Madness a fun time. I'd settle for 3D streaming, but I feel stuff like Friday the 13th 3D would be too niche and the selection would just be modern 3D masters.

Thanks for the info on the Sony customer service situation. Yes, the FAQs is the only thing I'm ever led to by Sony's Contact pages. Terrible customer service in my opinion for feedback anyway, but good to hear that rep was able to help with a specific console issue.

I have over 200 blu ray 3Ds that I watch on my 3D projector 100" screen, which is great since 2020, and then only Sony Bravia 3DTV and once in awhile on my PSVR1 PS4 blu ray 3D. I have the adapter to switch PSVR1 to PS5, but never did because Sony never gave us Blu ray 3D support.

It actually happens automatically in this game lol. It gets harder each time and the story progresses each time. (The game is a simulation is someone's mind, not a spoiler it's up front about that.) But even as it got harder (more damage, tougher enemies) it got easier too in a way with the upgrades and getting better at it in general.

I’m curious. If you got the adaptor to switch PSVR1 to PS5, could you play PSVR2 games?

No, that’s specifically for last gen games. The new headset has different technology.

I tried watching the old fashioned 3D with the cardboard glasses on PSVR and once I got the glasses secured in a certain way, it was a fun experience.

Proper 3D looked quite good, with excellent pop outs and decent depth. Fine for the odd watch here and there.

Thanks. Glad you're able to adapt to the difficulty of that game. I like zombies, but was hoping for an open world to explore. At least they don't run in this game, based on Walking Dead.

Thanks. Sadly, only for PSVR1 to PS5 since the PS4 camera won't work with the PS5, so they had an adapter for the camera to work with PS5 for the PSVR1. I hear it improves the resolution for some, but not all games.

When I got the free adapter, I was eager to see, and then I looked and the complicated set up of the PSVR1 on PS4, and said, "Forget it, this maze of wires would be a pain to redo as I want blu ray 3D PSVR playback more than better resolution."

That's interesting you were able to watch an anaglyh red/cyan 3D film with the PSVR headset. I can see that working with the two eye ports on PSVR1.

PSVR1's blu ray 3D playback is a great option for those who have no other way to view 3D films. If their 3DTV broke down or their 3D projector or 3D monitor. Those things cost a lot these days, many no longer produced. Most are now 2nd hand too, used items being sold for triple the original prices. Sad that no 3rd party manufacturer didn't step up to offer an alternative other than the 3D projectors, which I found brand new at under $400 in 2020 or so.
It's been awesome, like a 3D movie theater, on a 100" screen wall.

Walkabout MiniGolf is still my favorite game on this. Every month and a half or so they release a new course ( they cost $3.99 )
There is so much replay value for me.

I am looking forward to Happyfunland. That one looks interesting.

I think the Apple Pro Vision device is supposed to be releasing at the very low price of $3499 to start. February 2024. And I thought the PSVR2 was expensive at $599.99 + $500 PS5 = $1099.99+.

3D movie playback on AVP is probably the best 3D experience outside of a theater, it is excellent. Still really wish Sony would add 3D Blu-ray playback to PSVR2...

For non-Apple gaming, using a DualSense controller:

- Sony opted-out so there is no 1st party app to stream PS4 or PS5 at the moment
- Xbox app works, Xbox Cloud Streaming (beta) does not (Safari is missing a feature)
- Steam link works

Of course, that is all flat! The "spatial" games are ok but I still prefer a controller vs flailing my arms about Kinect style, so I'll stick with PSVR/2.

Heyadol, did you test out or buy an Apple Vision Pro? That's cool that you were able to watch 3D films on there already if so.

Can you play Steam games on there? If so, that is good to hear. I'm not buying one unless it was much cheaper, but sounds like a fun step into augmented reality.

Now if a gamer can walk around the house with the headset on in AR, and see their house turn into a dragon's cave, battling monsters and the dragon, that would be really cool.

Fun idea, but I can just picture some innocent partner/family member getting hit IRL.
