Here it’s what I expected. Standard Sony 1st party pricing. $90 for standard. $100 for deluxe. Or $70/80 US.

Plenty of time before now & release so instead went with Rebirth. Square’s Deluxe editions are $20 more here than Sony’s.

Looks like it is all unlockable, not sure if that includes the Digital Deluxe items or not.

There are about 30 different outfits available in the game, and they’re all acquirable through gameplay. So, you can explore, go on a quest, or go to the in-game shop to purchase them. You can enjoy that collecting element of the game.
Also, by going on quests you get to unlock hairstyles, so you can customise different looks. And there are other accessories like earrings and glasses. But the important part is that these are all acquirable in-game without any additional purchases.

That’s excellent news. So refreshing to see unlockables instead of DLC.

That said, I'm not a fan of the art design in this one, which dampens my enthusiasm quite a bit. I'm hoping it hits PS+ before my subscription expires so I can try it out.
Exactly. There’s nothing wrong with a video game ass video game every once in awhile.

If the reviews are good, saying the gameplay is great etc. then I’ll give it a shot.

I won't lie, I wasn't super engaged the first time I saw this game, but after a few more trailers I'm pretty interested. Weird comparison maybe, but as a typically Final Fantasy averse player, I absolutely loved XVI in a way I hadn't with other FF titles. Stellar Blade looks like it might also scratch that eastern action-rpg itch.

It also has some really interesting visuals

I really wish it had a physical preorder incentive, since that's usually the only thing that makes me buy full price.

But I'm definitely supporting this game at some point.

Can’t you pre-order it on Amazon or GameStop.com?

I've been watching the import stores and so far the only "incentive" I've come across is amazon.jp including a digital wallpaper which is pretty lame.

Haha. Appreciate it. I was looking in Asia too, thinking there has to be something. A figurine would have been bad "ass".

Why do some people call this an action RPG when I have not seen any proof there is a leveling system?

It seems to appear to have the hallmarks based on the stuff shown off so far, but i am curious to know whether you'd accept "RPG Lite" as still meeting that Action RPG type of game?

The labeling is kind of silly and always has been. An RPG is supposed to be about character creation, right? Well in nearly all classic ARPGs you don’t do that. The Ys series has completely straightforward upgrading and progression, certainly back in the day but also to this day. Zelda gives you more options in approaching its challenges, back then and especially with the last two games, giving you more control over how Link actually plays yet it’s not considered an “Action RPG” just because of a superficial difference in numbers on the screen. I love both series, by the way, definitely not knocking Ys.

Technically, any game that limits your ability to have control over what your character is and how they develop shouldn’t be considered an RPG. That includes most turn based JRPGs, in fact. The “role playing” people do in most RPGs isn’t any different from playing as a character in any game - your choices are predetermined, you’re just performing the game’s mechanics to varying degrees, just like a platformer or any other type of game.

If there's a special edition with a statue of Eve, I'm all over it, finally give my 2B statue a companion.

Firstly, there's a performance mode that runs the game at a smooth 60 frames-per-second. Then there's a resolution mode, reducing the frame rate in favour of a 4K resolution. Finally, a balanced mode splits the difference, finding a happy medium between the other modes.

It's not made clear what the balanced mode will be like precisely, but it's at least good to have a selection of choices so you can play the way you want. For a fast-paced action game like this, we imagine the performance mode will be the way to go, but again, it's always good to have more options.

All I want is confirmation of difficulty settings. This game looks fun as Hell but I don't have enough time to game to want to spend hours on every boss fight so something with a nice "Normal" difficulty setting would be nice.

That level of modification extends to the challenge, too. Kim explains that you can "control the difficulty setting," but even if you keep Stellar Blade on its default mode, the game has "systematically supported features" that can get you across the finish line.
