You can probably return it, if not it is still a pretty great system. I'm sure you will find plenty of games to play.

Honestly, there's hypocrisy and it's been there from the beginning to lie to the masses to make it out as if these big corporations are benevolent and great for us, and so accepting the deal was in the interests of consumers. BS. Boot lickers and idiots advocated for it. It should have been blocked and i don't say that as a "salty fanboy" but somebody who saw a mile off even if Sony was the one buying that it wasn't going to be good for the industry. I feel like if there was any possibility to void the deal or put in place legal measures to have prevented this crap with fines, then that would have given more reassurances but hell, these so called government trade bodies are toothless and dare i say there's a lot of backhanded bribery that goes on too. |

As for my other post, if you compare the volume of single player game releases from 10 to 15 years ago to now, it’s much different. Part of that has to do with longer development times, but it has a lot more to do with budgets. All it takes for a development studio to be completely shuttered these days is to release one average to slightly below average game that doesn’t sell very well. Look at one of the games you listed as a prime example, Forspoken. Or check out Immortals of Aveum. Not a bad game, by any means. But it was a new IP by a fairly new dev team that had a pretty creative world. They’ll never be given a chance to learn from their mistakes and try to improve with a sequel, though, because it didn’t sell like Zelda or Spider-Man or even Starfield. Massive budgets are why we’re seeing so many less risks being taken with creativity or new IPs, and there’s such a reliance on remakes and remasters. They cost less to make and already have a built in audience. Only publishers with deep pockets can afford to bankroll large, AAA single player games, because they require humongous teams and development now takes 3 - 5 years. Even with large franchises, things are totally different. We used to get multiple sequels for a new, popular IP on one console. Now we’re not always even getting one new game per console generation. Rockstar has only released two games in the past 11 years, and GTA 6 is not coming until 2025. Elder Scrolls skipped last generation completely also. And might not even release this generation. And as much as people won’t want to admit it, we as the consumers are to blame. We’ve basically begun telling publishers, “If every game isn’t nearly a perfect 10, doesn’t involve characters or properties I know and already love, isn’t a Souls clone, doesn’t have a massive world or doesn’t deliver 40 - 50+ hours of content, or preferably all of the above, then it’s not worth my money!” It’s funny to read so many people talking about how huge of a year 2023 was for gaming, when a good portion of those “fantastic games” were remakes. The rest were sequels, based on popular IPs or Souls clones. Not that those sequels or IP based games or Souls clones were not great, but it is what it is. This is where the subscription services can make a good, positive difference. People stop worrying about how much money they’re spending on each individual game and they step out of their comfort zones and try new things. Or give them another shot. Lies of P was the first Souls-like game I have ever played AND finished. The rest I had avoided because I had bought the original Dark Souls when it came out, got frustrated, decided immediately I did not like it, and sold it. Since finishing Lies of P, I not only bought Lies of P, I’ve purchased Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1 - 3, Bloodborne and Sekiro. Last edited by QuasidodoJr; 02-08-2024 at 10:24 PM. |

![]() It seems it could go that way, but I believe that for this full generation, the established Microsoft Studios games like MS Flight Simulator 2020, Forza and Forza Horizon, Halo and Gears of War, those games MUST remain with XBSXS or it could be another Xbox fallout like we saw when XBox One wanted to require gamers to always be online 24/7 to play even single player gamers. What an absolute horrible thing that would be. The gamers yelled out and MS completely revised their horrible tactic thankfully. It gave a huge boost to PS4. |

Guess we’ll find out for sure next week. Now one of the original leakers who was used as a lot of people’s sources is walking it back and saying Starfield and other large exclusives are not coming to PS5. Who knows?

If Starfield isn't arriving on PS5 at all if true, then that would deflate any hope for Blade or Fallout 5 and Elder Scrolls from Bethesda. That would make this whole situation pointless IMO without Bethesda for PS5. That's the main thing I care about. They were 3rd party when I bought PS5 in November 2020, and now they're on MS's team. Not cool. We'll see how it turns out hopefully soon. |

The only other news that came out is that Phil Spencer did a meeting with all Xbox staff last week where he assured everybody that Xbox was still in the business of making consoles with no plans to stop. That’s mostly all I needed to hear. If some of their games go to other consoles, that’s fine. As long as I know my game library and GamerScore have a future, I am satisfied. Doesn't matter. That's not the rumors they need to address. The rumors are about some XGS games going multiplatform to PlayStation and Nintendo. Rumor: "XGS games to go multiplatform." Phil: "No, we won't stop making consoles." ....and the crowd goes wild!!! |

I think its funny that Xbox feels like they have to "address the nation" over this. Outside of online console war bullshit, why do they need to explain themselves to anybody? They will continue to make hardware. Cool. You can address that in a tweet. Same with putting games on Switch/PlayStation. Send out a tweet. Or don't. Part of Xbox's problem is their leadership always seems so damn reactionary instead of proactive. They are constantly responding, explaining, clarifying, defending. They need to quit feeling like they need to capitulate to the social media outcry and just execute their vision. I'm all for good communication up to a point, but after a while it just makes you look weak.

I don't think it's too hard to imagine a scenario in which the entire internet is saying your business model is changing and you look at the recent numbers and see that it's actually affected business.
If they send a Tweet people will say "not enough information, I'm not convinced." They're ****ed either way. Anybody actively hoping this happens or making fun of it is short sighted. Even the diehard SONY fanboys of this forum should be able to notice what a one horse race means for the future of the industry. Last edited by dyne; 02-11-2024 at 02:14 PM. |
