thats assuming they are officially supported on said platform which Sony can block if they chose to

According to rumours, Sony has signed contracts with AMD for the PS6 components they will likely use whilst MS is still shopping around and behind. There's rumours this could cause MS to end up a year behind Sony to releasing a next gen console. Funnily enough, the same lead MS had in the PS3 gen with their 360 launch since it still had DVD.

However, i think the Xbox brand thrives on having a physical presence and Sony as well as MS will continue to release hardware respectively branded. You have to remember that MS would have an even bigger and significant bloat using any PC operating system as well as the fact the hardware would fall behind far quicker imo than how a traditional console usually can still improve via optimisation.

The bigger threat imo is an all digital hardware. That happens, with the international PlayStation stores no longer working as a grey market way to purchase, i can firmly say i'm going to pretty much pull back completely from PlayStation and consoles in general to probably build a PC. With new TVs getting 144hz support, there's a lot more scope to enjoy big screen gaming with DLSS and so on in higher refresh rates. MS also pretty much release all their major IPs alongside like Ubisoft etc. and Sony now have started with PlayStation too which will probably only increase.

Disc based gaming is a big thing to me, but if we're heading all digital, i want the damn cheapest pricing i can get and that includes being able to jump through some hoops if i want better pricing.

There’s also rumors Nvidia is making an entirely new business unit to handle bespoke chips and that they want to supply MS for their next console.

Good point, are there any SIE games on the Microsoft Store other than the original Death Stranding? All other Sony PC games are only on Steam and Epic, so even if there was an PC-based Xbox handheld that supported Windows games it probably wouldn't see any PlayStation ports. Maybe MLB The Show if it also played Xbox console games.
