Good news - Looks like McG is prepping Terminator 5.

Bad News - Looks like McG is intent on telling his, "They come to our time" storyline.

McG Tells IESB He's Currently Prepping TERMINATOR 5 and Says He's Taken his Lumps in Stride
Written by Christina Radish Friday, 07 August 2009 07:44

Hot off the heels of TERMINATOR SALVATION, director McG says he's already hard at work prepping the next installment regardless of the fan criticism he's received.
He seems to be following the Michael Bay Transformers model and jumping right back into the franchise.

At an interview with the producer/director about HUMAN TARGET his latest dive into TV starring Jackie Earle Haley, McG spoke candidly to IESB about the next TERMINATOR film.

McG: Yeah. I'm prepping 20,000 Leagues, every day, but I'm concurrently prepping Terminator 5, another Terminator picture. So, we're cooking that up. And then, I'm very active in Spring Awakening, the musical, also. So, we'll see. But, my focus, right now, is really pushing forward with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

IESB: Do you want to take time off between Terminator films?

McG: It's interesting. Obviously, Michael Bay had tremendous success following Transformers, in a very short window. Sometimes people like to take time off, but I'm excited about the next installation of the story, in the Terminator idea.

So, for me, it's terribly exciting to get back out there and show a different face of that idea, and perhaps get out of the apocalyptic world and into a contemporary world. I think the audience is going to be very excited about our way in. I haven't talked to anybody about that yet. You're the first one. (From CYMBOL - "Uh dude, EVERYONE knows about it!" He must not read the internets. . .)

IESB: Do you listen to fan criticism, or is that just too much information?

McG: No, I listen to everything. It's interesting because a lot of people don't like me, but a lot of people just don't like my name. I can't take that too seriously because that's been my name my whole life. It's not something that I prescribed myself. So, I just gotta roll forward and, hopefully, have the films do the talking. You take your lumps, if they don't like it, and you enjoy it a lot more when they do. We've all been on every side of that, and what can you do, but figure out what you did right and what you did wrong, look at it a little more closely, study the people that you look up to, and continue to evolve as a storyteller.

for getting ready for T5

for if he does that story

And of course we all know already!
Does he even know what the interwebs is?

That news broke a LONG time ago.

While I'd like to see 20,000 Leagues, I would rather see T5, so pull him off that and focus exclusively on T5. Unless he is hell bent on doing that going back in time story, because that can't possibly turn out well. We need to stay in the future now that we have started, Connor would never go back again, he knows it is pointless to try and stop J-Day.

Exactly. I'm not one to completely judge a movie before its out, but....there would be soooo little hope for that storyline to make a good film.

I thought he did a very good job on Salvation, but if that is the story he insists on telling for the 5th film....its time for him to move along.

Where do I sign?

What happened to this:

McG also mentioned that the next film would study "the genesis of [Sam Worthington's character] Marcus, the coming of time travel and the fate of John Connor himself. We've marked out all those stories. And the child plays a critical role in it."
That sounds good!

Do that and not back in time!

Sadly, I think he is buckling to the powers that be at WB. I think the studio heads equate "old style" to $.

Maybe

WB doesn't have first rights to the next film though, MGM does.

Whichever studio it is, go with the storyline you talk about in that quote McG!

I wonder if WB would up for another one anyway. Sony probably would since it did well overseas.

Great News!

and I think he was referring to their way in and not the actual time jump. It'll be interesting to see how this is done. Not an easy thing for Conner to do. Remember once you jump, there's no going back. Not an easy thing to leave your wife and kids (if time passes between the movies the baby would have been born).

Remember that Terminator is an independent film franchise. I'm sure there'll be studio interest once it gets made.

I think they did a great job with T4 considering the whole Utopia story line they had cooked up.

Gee, thanks, I had totally forgot about that crap story line

Of course we got a great movie out of an original bad idea.

So maybe this time could be the same. Hmmm...

Ha ha that's what I was thinking. As soon as the writers tell McG, wait a minute, neither John Connor or Reese could go back in time because they'd be stuck. Then hopefully McG will say okay I want 250 terminators trying to take out the resistance in a battle...
