Yeah, I was just about to mention that, seems anything sony owns lacks the english

I'm glad Avalon has the subs though, the US sub track is dubtitles, and the Bandai subs on the DVD version were superb

Good to see my old thread up and kicking

Still no news on this, but I would be ecstatic if a box set came out.

Nice avatar Buck...is that from the 80's movie Rad? I watched that movie so many times when I was 10. Where else are you going to see people Bike dance?
That avatar is what happens to you when you're "Living in a Van. Down by the River!"

Default Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door BD out January 25th in Japan

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCXA-19

its supposedly coming out this month. i live in Okinawa Japan, so im hoping its cheaper here locally. but still, if the movie is coming out on Blu, the show cant be far behind. pretty pricey for it to be imported though, about 65 dollars. ouch. hope this hadnt been posted already!

Edit: It seems this had already been discussed in a thread way down this page. but since some people wont read that one or havent, i guess this works too.

Funimation has stated they will be supporting Blu more and more. Sony has released Paprika and Tekkon Kinkreet (both amazing) already. Cowboy Bebop on Blu is high on my list of desired Anime Blu, up there with Utawarerumono and Air (both on Blu already in Japan).

There are no subs because like steamboy, Sony owns it in the US, and I'm sure they plan on releasing it domestically sooner or later

Bandai, not Funimation owns Cowboy Bebop TV

Air is simply an upconvert with a new HD opening sequence

Has anyone heard any updates about a US release? I don't understand why this hasn't been released in the US yet since it is so popular and its SONY related when less popular titles like Tekkonkinkreet are on blu-ray.

US / Canada will probably get the BluRay treatment maybe when the 'live action' film get's released or something? Tempted to purchase the Japanese BluRay copy but it doesn't have the English Dub. D'oh!

Exactly, I'd so get down with them bringing all three out on blu (the series, movie, and Samurai Champloo). It's a shame my Japanese is so non-existent (trying to learn tho') as I'd surely love to get the movie.

Well truthfully, even though it's not that good (my Japanese, not the movie), I'm still tempted to get it if I ever run up on deal for it.

I was just about to buy the new Funimation Samurai Champloo boxset on DVD but I emailed them regarding a blu-ray release and they said that they plan on releasing it late 09 - early 2010. I also emailed Sony Pictures regarding the Cowboy bebop movie on blu and they said no plans yet. Pretty rediculous considering Sony owns the rights to the movie. An anime as popular as bebop owned by Sony in the states and they wont release it on Blu? What gives?

It's good to hear Samurai Champloo is coming at least. I can't wait to get on that.

Whoa...shut up!!! So Funi is gonna do Samurai Champloo on blu?!

Hellz yeah! That's certainly worth the wait. But I'm still pissed that Sony's dragging ass on Bebop...at least as far as a N. American release is concerned. I had heard that they were thinking of making Bebop a live-action movie, I wonder if they might try to pull some sort of tie in with it later and release it then? (you know, to help garner buzz)

At any rate, I'm getting to the point where I'm gonna end up doing like I did with GITS 2: Innocence a couple of years back (before it was FINALLY released here this year) and say the hell with it and end up importing it anyway...since it seems like such a indefinite waiting game with Sony.
