Technically, it's been around for five years. It used to be called IMDb TV.

Streaming definitely sucks. It appeals to people who don't think and that's most of folks.

I haven't used Prime Video since long before they added ads. I avoid ads - seems to be a good idea. When I do see ads it tends to steer me away from whatever they are desperately trying to sell.
