Almost bought the LE Blu-ray on eBay last week for $90 (sealed), but I’m happy I held off. It’s great that Arrow is upgrading some of their titles in 4K. It’s still not being offered in their US store, but I’m more likely to order it from Diabolik, or Grindhouse.

Glad I popped back into this thread this morning! Didn't realize it was up for pre-order already!! I snagged my copy at diabolik too! I only got the standard edition for their BD, so I'm going with the limited this time, not because I collect boxes/cases/slips/etc but because I do have a few Del Toro books about his movies etc, so I want to add that to my pile.

I watched the film for this first time around Halloween. I really liked it and it will look amazing with HDR but I am just sure I would watch it enough to need to own it. If I do get it I will just wait for a standard edition and get it around this Halloween.

Yes, that art is very nice. I didn't order this initially today (I have to have The Long Good Friday) and had skipped the Arrow BD, but on closer inspection, it looks to be worth getting the Limited Edition for the art and extra content, so I re-ordered with this included.

Not to (potentially) dampen excitement for this, but how good will this actually be as a 4K release? I assumed there was never going to be 4K release, so had already bought the Arrow blu-ray. But the reason I had assumed so was because Crimson Peak was shot digitally with 2K source formatting (yes, technically a little bit higher-resolution than that for the actual source, but still nowhere near 4K). It's not that don't want to have a cool, beautiful-looking and improved replacement on my shelf; I'm just wary of spending even more for something I already have if it'll only end up being simply an upscaled version of the blu-ray with some HDR effects thrown on.
Edit: I'm not saying I think the 4K release will for-sure have zero improvement, as Crimson Peak has enough creative use of colour and lighting that a 4K transfer of even a 2K+ source will probably reveal some nice detail that was compressed out of the blu-ray. I just don't know if it'll be enough to justify buying the film a second time. Last edited by CaryGrantchester; 02-27-2024 at 09:48 PM. |
