As far as I remember
[Show spoiler]Raban dies "off screen" in the book.

Yup, those. Didn't look at publishing dates, just checked story in order listing.

The character of Feyd-Rautha is naturally "overlooked", or maybe "bypassed",
[Show spoiler]by Paul's mother's failure to produce a female heir, who would've been married to Feyd, to produce the Kwisatz Haderach, or the male Bene Gesserit.

Far as I remember, what he does is kill slaves (to demonstrate his and the Harkonnen's cruelty and inhumanity), attempt to assassinate his uncle, the Baron (obviously omitted from the first movie) and then challenge Paul Muad'Dib in kanly at the end of the book/part two of the movies.

Overlooked is the perfect word. What surprised me is that he has a big introduction scene and then he's very useless

Is the movie true to the book overall and with the arcs of Lady Jessica and Paul ?

Back from my IMAX laser showing, I'll say this no other huge blockbuster movie I've seen in years felt this perfect in every way.

5/5 for now!

Cinema is ****ing healing

No more capeshit mediocrity dominating. Nolan and Vileneuve showed how its done.

I want a Cleopatra movie so bad. That shit in Dennis hands will be insane.

I'm in the cinema now, during the interval (hateful practice). Really wish I was in a proper IMAX. Ah well. At least it's in English.

Film is a real trip so far. Wish we could get a whole film just of the Harkonnens.

I was bored last night and finally watched Dune part 1, and while it was a good movie that kept me in tune. I was also left at the end saying to myself that it felt like the bad guys in this movie had like a total of 15 minutes out of almost a over 2 hour movie.

I was thinking that maybe part 1 was just setting everything up for the next installment but it sounds like he was lightly used again??

I picked up my Genuine Collectible Worm-Shaped Souvenir Popcorn Vessel a couple of weeks ago, so I’m ready to go this weekend!

[Show spoiler] IMG_1986.jpg

Here’s the best part: the theater had just started selling these things, and the concession stand guy could not find the right button on the console to ring up the sale. So he gave it to me for just the price of an ordinary large popcorn! That’s like getting it for free!! This is already my favorite movie of the year, and I haven’t even seen it yet!

I loved Part One, so this one is easily one of my most anticipated films of the year.

The great early reactions have only made the wait even harder.

I can't wait to see this in the upcoming days!

This is the best movie I've seen in theaters in terms of sound and soundtrack.

Just finished watching in AMC Dolby Theater. One of the best Dolby experiences. The audio is insane.
I liked first part but this is on whole another level.

Before the movie starts there is small snippet from Villeneuve where he praises Dolby format and says this is his preferred format for Dune 2. Not sure if he said the same thinkg about IMAX. Next viewing will be on IMAX single laser.

Kermode liked it but his one quibble is that Walken isn’t good in this and feels out of place like he’s just playing himself. And while Walken and Pugh’s characters are both underused, Pugh does a good job with the screen time she has.

To be fair, Daddy V gave Padishah such a small part, it would've been hard for any actor to sink their teeth into the role.

I’m going to need to sit and think on this before I even know how I feel about it. As of right now I don’t even know if I liked it a decent amount or didn’t like it. There is a lot to take in.

I just got out seeing the film. I would give a a 8.5/10, and I think it is a very well made film, but just short of being one of my favorites. It is hard for me to imagine how any film this year can match the visual spectacle that is of Dune 2. The visual effects and cinematography goes extremely well together, and every shot was well crafted. The music was just about perfect. I especially like the use of the sweeping sand in the seduction scene (like a gentle but twisted push) and Feyd-Rautha's satanic introduction in the arena. The main theme didn't appear that often, but was used nicely during the kiss scene montage and the end with kissing of the ring.

I think what held the film back a bit was that it struggled to develop all those characters in the second half. Austin Butler was incredible as Feyd, but didn't do much outside of the intro and the final fight and ultimately was a missed opportunity. It was cool seeing Walken as the Emperor, but again, he didn't really have much of an impact. Florence Pugh did a great job as Princess Irulen, but her story only got interesting at the end of the film. On the other hand, I really enjoy Lady Jessica's story arc, but still wish she has more conversations with Chani so they could have slowly developed their animosity.

The final climax was rather short, but welcome in a sense that we seen so many drawn big battles before. Overall, a very well made film that made me curious how the series will move forward, but I don't think this competes with The Dark Knight or Terminator 2 as the pinnacle of sequels.
