Netflix, Amazon, Appletv and Disney all incorporated should I need them.
I quit Sky a while back now, but I do still get e-mails from them with special offers if I go back to them again. Strange that they never made me any offers during the 20 or so years I was with them.

There was talk that Sky wouldn't bother with satellite installations any longer as many people were taking up Sky Glass, however that turns out not to be the case. I'm glad you're happy with yours as Sky Q would be the route I'd take when the time comes.

It’s best to phone them when the contract is due for renewal. I’m sure they would rather keep customers on paying less rather than lose a customer completely. That’s my method anyway.

19 months ago I switched from SKY to BT with ‘NOW TV’,and ‘SKY Sports’ (now TNT Sports) as bolt ons. It has got very expensive and I won’t be renewing in July when my 2 year contract is up.

Like you I didn’t receive any e-mails from SKY while I was with them for 8 years but I’m considering the SKY Q option if I can haggle a good inexpensive deal.

Lately I watch more stuff on discs and Youtube than on TV so I may just have a broadband deal and FREEVIEW for a while. That would free up more dosh for more discs.

Freeview is going to be a streaming offering soon. (alongside the regular tv option), it will be called freely. In other developments, Pluto is teaming up with C5 this year, with a combined app that will have the Pluto interface and all the content from both free services.
Finally, U.S service Tubi is coming to U.K. at some point this year.

Some considerations for you to compliment your disc collecting maybe?

I wasn’t aware of the Freeview/freely streaming service thanks for that information.

I’ve just googled it. Blimey, everything is going the way of streaming these days.

Call me old fashioned but I still enjoy seeking out, purchasing and watching a film, TV series, documentary or concert on a shiny disc and the odd VHS videocassette.

I liked Sky whilst I had it, but the subscriptions were creeping up quite regularly, and then when I eventually had to quit my job to become a full-time carer to my parents, I just decided to pull the plug as I didn't have as much spare cash as when I was working.

From memory, their first offer to me after I quit was a half-price subscription for 18 months, including Sky Sports (I had already stopped Sky Movies a couple of years earlier).

I would like to get Sky Q eventually when circumstances change. However I think I'd just get Sky Sports as, like yourself, I found myself watching discs more often than Sky's movie channels. Also I didn't particularly care for the way they started to pick up some of the terrestrial channels' irritating bad practice of occasionally squeezing the end credits into a small corner of the screen thus making the names unreadable.

Yeah, it’s a lot of money for sure. A big ask but as a football fan, they are the only option.
Like you say, not the best when one has other stuff they need to do, totally get that. I was thinking about packing it in a while back.

...so, are you guys talking satellite with an actual dish physically on your property or content beamed to a dish and then transmitted via fiber to your neighbourhood/ house?

Actual dish. Although they are starting to go the route of a streaming puck and will eventually phase out the dish. We are a good 7-8 years away from that I believe. The guy who installed my updated system agrees, plenty of people still like having the hard drive recording option.

..and you get your internet from the same dish? or are they a separate thing?

In my neck of the woods, there are 2 main competing companies - one was historically the 'telephone" company and the other the "cable TV company". Once they both started offering internet services, they branched out in different ways technologically with very different offerings... but now the tech seems to be morphing into basically identical plans for everything - Fiber to the home for TV, internet and home phone... both companies have identical cellular phone offerings as well..

Separate thing. Upgraded to FTTP several months ago. The satellite just supplies the tv service.

Oh I totally agree. For football and practically any other sport they cover, Sky are excellent in my opinion. I even had BT Sport for a while as well (seem to remember it being Setanta before BT took over it).

Amazon have just give up, so Sky must have paid a fortune for the new rights.

I didn't know that. I think Amazon used to scoop the rights to the football matches during the Christmas period as I recall. I guess this may mean another increase in subscriptions to cover the extra cost.

Default FTTP with Ethernet!

Fiber is Now, using anything else will become Obsolete. As you guys know I have Fiber with Ethernet, IPTV, 100/100Mbps Internet, and VoIP Ooma. I can watch just about anything I want, no Disc needed. Been watching "Masters of the Air," on AppleTV+!

Not true. For my tests and review processes I have both fiber and cable internet. Both at 1.5 gbps. The both shown to be 1.5 gbps (burst) with around 1 gbps (sustained)
