Madame Web (2024)

Saw it Monday night...and yeah, not good. Like others have said, it's not boring and it at least held my attention. But bad acting, bad dialogue, bad digital effects, bad ADR and a weak story & direction make this a bad movie. Sure it's watchable, but not QUITE a so-bad-it's-good type of movie. It's close to being that, but not quite there. I can see why Sony just kind of threw this one out there into theatres and adding no post credit scenes to this one. Here's hoping Kraven and Venom 3 later this year bring the Sonyverse back to focus after this Madame Web misfire!

But I did see her in Madame Web and wouldn't watch either of those other things. What does that say about me?

But why do the same two screenwriters keep getting hired?

Six failed movies in a row.

If this was school, and you bombed your last six tests, or written assignments, or homework...etc you'd fail and get kicked out of that class and dropped into a lower level.

If this was real life (I say that because Hollywood is not real life), and they failed at their real jobs this many times, they'd be laid off.

There’s supposed to be repercussions for things. Where’s the repercussions for these “writers”?

They were hired back in 2019, before Morbius came out and they were just coming off of the Lost In Space reboot. Heck, they even went into salvage mode for this film after Morbius' reception.

I don't think it's the writer's (Sazama and Sharpless) fault entirely. They've written some good films (Dracula Untold and Morbius for example are VERY underrated), but the dialogue in their scripts could use improvement, yes.

Madame Web is easily their worst written film to date, but I'm honestly going to put the majority of the blame on the ditector, S.J. Clarkson and Sony itself. It blows my mind that you let a TELEVISION DIRECTOR helm an $80 million film and let it turn out like THAT.

I'm just hoping Kraven does well at the box office. Previews look good, it's written by an accomplished writer and helmed by a competent director. I'm hoping the film doesn't get bullied by the internet like Morbius did and become a big flop.

I've always blamed scriptwriters first, actors second (it is their job to sell the lines after all) and directors last. At most directors can prop up bad dialogue by generating a cool environment on screen and generating a convincing performance from the cast.

Clearly her being paid thousands of dollars to say a line written by a committee for a failing show that's been dead since the early 90s will show that she hated the film and will revoke everything around it!
