I REALLY want to buy a bluray player, but have some questions first. Here goes.
1 - What is the best make of Bluray player (I've heard it's Sony - is this true?) 2 - Will blurays look good on a 26" HDtv (will I be able to notice the difference from dvds) 3 - When DVDs are upscaled on bluray, do I get the same picture as I would on a HDMI upscaling dvd player, or is it even better than that? 4 - Is it worth re-buying/upgrading all of my dvds when I get a bluray player? 5 - Where in the UK sells blurays the cheapest/best value? 6 - Is BD-Live free, and how does it work? Thanks VERY much! I may add some more questions if I think of any! Thanks again ![]() |

1. Oppo is likely the best player for the price at the moment.
2. Blu will look good on a 26" set. But, the difference from 480i won't be great at normal seating distances. 3. It depends on the quality of the scalers in the players. 4. That's your call. 5. Dunno 6. It't free and that's about what it's worth at this time. |

Do you really read that to be a request for a recommendation about a reference quality BD player, a $4k or $5k model, to feed his 26" TV and the "two big speakers" now attached to his DVD player? If so, please answer the man's question.

I said: Not so true. It all depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. |

I see. I took your "Not true" post, which was right below mine, as a response to my Oppo recommendation. But, I gather it was a response to the OP's Sony question.
Nonetheless, I don't think the OP is looking for a reference player with the best video processing and DACs. I believe he's asking about a quality player at a reasonable price. He'll be quite happy with a Sony or a Panasonic (the BD60/80 freezing problem aside). But, I'll stand by my comment that the Oppo seems to be the best make available now. |

I'll take a stab at a few of these.

It is free. You need to have a network connection to the player so it can access the content. So far, I've been underwhelmed with the quality of the content offered. |

I have 32" tv 720 p, dvd player Memorex can out put 720p or 1080p and samsung up 5000 blu-ray player. When I hook up both player into 32"TV using HDMI cable I don't see much of difference like with my 60" TV when using DVD disc but with blu-ray you will see a litte difference but not much if there is.
