Somehow I never knew that there was a 2003 Special Edition DVD of The Abyss, in a white Digipack. (The closest I can compare it to is the DVDs of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Predator from Fox, and Citizen Kane, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Once Upon A Time In America, and JFK from WB.) I found several widescreen copies, but no fullscreen copies.

1. Are these the same two discs as the 2000 silver box DVD? (Both claim they’re anamorphic, but the 2000 box is wrong.)
2. Was there an anamorphic disc that slipped under my radar anywhere in the world?
3. Was there a fullscreen version of the 2003 DVD? If so I’ll double dip just to have that beautiful open matte version of the film.

Edit: and all three films are down to $24.99 each at Target.

Greetings, everyone 3-)

Don't know if anyone's importing the 4K from Amazon.com, but for those who are...is anyone still waiting for the actual Estimate of when should it come out at Home? My Order still says it's coming between March 13th-21st (with Standard Shipping - it still doesn't let me change to AmazonGlobal Priority); meanwhile, as I order the "KUNG FU PANDA" 4K (also due on March 12th), it gives me both the Estimate and AmazonGlobal.

To each their own. All I do is walk to my shelves, pick out the film and pop it in. Nothing to figure out except what to watch

I’ll look at the glass half-full for once and say this is an Amazon problem, not a “we got screwed again” problem. I don’t know what sites serve the Italian/European market that are similar to Grub, Diabolik, Orbit etc, but I’d say go to them. They’re likely more expensive, but at least they’ll get there in good condition.

None of these are in stock on the Best Buy website. What a shame. Best Buy could easily be a major player, but they choose not to. I think I heard they gave the movie and music spaces up to appliances, but I’ve never seen one appliance move in the decades I’ve been shopping at Best Buy.

Edit: In order, $25.49, 24.99, and 24.59 at Walmart.

Is there any Kaleidoscape review for this yet? It is usually the same as disc version and audio is identical.

Eh - thanks for the advice (I have yet to try Gruv, Orbit, etc. - does Gruv actually ship to Italy?), but I don't worry much about the Condition the Package comes in, neither whether it's actually coming out or not on March 12th, which has got this Thread in a fuss, I guess - actually, I have yet to get a Blu-Ray coming from elsewhere that's in damaged condition.

Even outside Amazon.com, stores like Newtownvideo or Coseon_de, no matter the Shipping Times, shockingly had the Discs come in just fine without any Scratches or ripped Covers (something I can't say for some of the Italian orders <x-)

Almost like trying to find which theater is/was playing the film you want to see.

Or which channel the game is on.

Oh, the humanity of first world problems.

Real answer, it’s the second option for me. I’m going to Target literally as the doors open on March 12. I tried the same thing a few years ago when the 4K of A Clockwork Orange dropped. Got tons of great discs, but not that one. (Admittedly though the rollout on that release was absolutely awful.) So Target at 8 AM, and whatever’s not there I’ll hit Walmart some other time that day.

Amazon and B&N are last resorts, Amazon because they’re c*nts, and B&N because their prices are obscene. When I went to the Criterion sale back in July, I saw the 4K of Casablanca there. The original price was covered by a 40% off sticker, and the 40% off price was $33.99. That is a form of terrorism. I really don’t want to shell out big bucks at B&N or any bucks at Amazon unless I absolutely have to.

B&N leaves their stickers on during sales. That likely would have rung up at the 50% off you were expecting.

And B&N has also said they're going to be expanding their physical media section so I think we need to give them a chance.

I’m genuinely starting to wonder about the 3/12 date on this. The radio silence is a bit deafening considering we’re supposedly eight days out from one of, if not THE, most anticipated 4K title ever. :-\

I stated earlier in thread I sense a possible supplier delay because no copies are in the flesh on eBay and no reviewers got any copies yet.
