600m

The problem of course is it scares the crap out of me if something was wrong with it.

I can't get a 500m/600m locally. I could only get the 101FD for about $3600 CAD. That is quite the price jump from the 500m.

They also have a 141FD for about $6000 CAD. Ugh... that is way too pricey???

My question is... who has bought a tv online? Is it worth the risk for the money saved?

I don't want to spend more than $4000.

The only problem with buying something from E-bay too is that they are probably not legitimate retailers for Pioneer electronics. In the hopefully unlikely event that something goes wrong, then pioneer will not honor the warranty. If at all possible, I would try to find a local retailer that has a few left in stock and purchase through them.
