It’s quite a dark film about how all consuming and destructive anti-Roma, anti-immigrant (and to an extent, anti-EU also) sentiment can be, not backed up by Christianity (the church isn’t welcoming at all in the film) or the facts of events (
[Show spoiler]like all the allegations around spoiled bread and the danger to women that isn’t really backed up by reality.
)
[Show spoiler]Also, unlike No Bears, there are actually bears in the film.
The cover does make it seem more quirky, though it does at least convey it’s about the people of a Transylvanian town. Reading into Romanian history, the town’s impulses aren’t a new thing, but reflect decades (and probably centuries) of history.

Mother and Son already down to £7.99 on HMV/Amazon only a few weeks after release.

As expected it’s another barebones release.

Extras on Scrapper (released tomorrow) are Behind the Scenes Featurette and Interviews with Cast & Crew. Kino’s US release includes a commentary and making of, so shame the commentary isn’t included.

This should make a good double bill with Aftersun.

Thanks for this. I was having a very difficult time finding out anything about the extras (despite seeing multiple Facebook posts from Picturehouse about the release coming up), and ended up having to blind buy it, but I'm pleased the disc got something. In this case it seems odd about the commentary not being included as well, but maybe Kino and Picturehouse decided to split an extras package between themselves.

It’s listed on the Amazon page.

Also Picturehouse is one word rather than two.

I don't recall the special features being listed when I looked a couple of days ago. I even took to eBay to look for early retail copies to no avail, so that appears to be a recent addition to the listing.

I just looked it HMV and it lists both those extras on the back, I wish they would announce it a bit more ahead of time.

Yes, I think they revised the Amazon listing after the fact. Would be good for them to list extras ahead of time. Would have been even better if they'd included the commentary on this one!

Full extras breakdown:
"The Making of Scrapper" featurette (3:40)
Cast and Crew Interviews (with Play All option - 26:24)
- Charlotte Regan & Theo Barrowclough (6:15)
- Charlotte Regan, Elena Muntoni & Molly Manning Walker (3:54)
- Harris Dickinson & Alin Uzun (3:59)
- Harris Dickinson (2:48)
- Elena Muntoni (3:49)
- Nora Robertson (1:52)
- Oliver Cronk (3:51)
Theatrical Trailer (2:05)

The 6 minute interview probably has a bit of depth but when a lot of them are 2-4 minutes, feels like they’d be pretty basic EPK ones which briefly discuss character and some banter. Of course they could pack a lot of insight into a few minutes and sometimes short interviews are better than a commentary depending on how engaging the personality is.

Lionsgate will be releasing Anatomy of a Fall on behalf of Picturehouse, date TBA. Assume it will be barebones like Triangle of Sadness, but Living, The Courier, The Father and Ammonite had extras (Leo Grande and Wrath of Man didn’t.)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anatomy-Fal...dp/B0CMV9BNZX/

Le Pacte’s French release includes a bonus DVD, so hopefully some of those extras could be English subtitled.

Quote:

I went to see The Taste of Things last week, I thought that it was very good, but not great. Probably not something I would buy at full price, but I liked it well enough to get it eventually. If you're not interested in all the food, there's a simple but effective love story, although I found the characters to be pretty shallow and one-note. The film is lit in an interesting way, it often looks like those photos illustrating HDR lighting. I'm not sure it they used only natural light sources, I'd appreciate an in-depth view into that aspect of the production, but I doubt that we'll get anything of the sort.

The Nest

I got around to watching this last night and really liked it.

Great cast. Film and Blu-ray releases seem to have disappeared due to COVID which is a real shame as it was worth my time.

Sean Durkin done the excellent Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Iron Claw which I've not seen yet.

Yes, very underappreciated director I reckon. He also did the Channel 4 series Southcliffe, if you're interested. The Iron Claw was great, definitely worth seeking out once it's on Blu-ray. I still need to buy The Nest actually, will get it when it's cheap!
