Hopefully at some point we can get a decent 3D restoration on 4k!
It is a decent restoration but there's a lot of room for improvement. A 2K restoration would suffice if done right, if this gets a 4K disc it will be flat anyway.

I only have a few 3D movies in my collection. How common is it for them to NOT include a pair of glasses in the packaging (as is the case with the SF 3-film set)? There were glasses in one of the old 8-film Friday the 13th collections (they even gave you two pair) and VS included one with Silent Madness.

My question is, when the hell will the rights for this become available again so that the 3-DFA can get their hands on it and restore it properly? Ditto for F13 Part 3 and Metalstorm!

I haven’t got very many, but I can’t think of a single 3D anaglyph movie I’ve bought that didn’t contain at least one pair.

Actually, I think The Mask blu ray didn’t have any, but the original anaglyph was only included as an extra, so can be forgiven.

Oops. My error on this one (Amityville 3D). I mistakenly thought it was anaglyph and that's why I wondered about no glasses in the case.

When Amityville 3-D was on HBO back in the day the opening titles read "Amityville The Demon" instead of "Amityville 3-D" and I was hoping the VHS Tape from Orion or Video Treasure's had the alternate title screen so I bought both from ebay and they both have the normal Amityville 3-D opening.

Does anyone know where I can find the version with the alternate opening title?

I think Lionsgate released it as “the demon”, but I can’t confirm if the opening titles are the ones you’re looking for.

This is a pretty interesting turn of events, a seller on ebay was actually selling a "Blank" VHS Tape that just happens to have Amityville III: The Demon recorded on it from HBO I asked him to send me a screenshot of the opening title and he did, this is the title screen I remembered from HBO:

VHS Tape

Title Screen

I bought the tape so I can preserve this title variation. When I get the tape I will convert it to a digital copy and upload a video of the Opening Titles!!

I’m rewatching this, and, man, the 3-D in this is absolutely spectacular; very strong throughout, depth for miles, tons of awesome negative parallax, some incredible popouts, and most importantly, it’s all brilliantly staged. There are so many knockout shots in this. Very entertaining horror hokum too, with an outstanding cast. This is what 3-D is all about. If only most filmmakers of the Bronze Age weren’t so goddamned timid about negative parallax and really strong layered depth. Yep, I’m looking at you, James Cameron. The only downsides of this disc are the wonky title card and the lack of the 3-DFA’s loving fine-tuning touch. But even as-is, this is an absolute must-own, one of the most impressive stereoscopic feature films ever made.

Amityville 3-D is one of the best 3D films ever made, no question. It makes Avatar The Way of Water look like an amateur effort.

This and Friday the 13th Part III are the only 3D films I own three times over.

Somebody just mentioned this film in the Jaws 3 4k thread, and claimed the 3D sequences "were complete ass, only a slight step up from Amityville 3D". Lol. Jaws 3D has nothing on Amityville 3D.

I have to agree that the strong 3D combined with the effective compositions make Amityville 3D one of the best 3D films of the 80's, and even now stands out. It's a shame the 3D Film Archive didn't get to work on this one.

Avatar Way of the Water is technically superior due to the newer tech and 3D photogrpahy versus the over/under single-frame photography of Amityville 3D, but Way of the Water comes off as lackluster as far as actual 3D strength and composition.

I thing Amityville 3D is pretty fun too.

Although, even the 3-D in Jaws 3-D is pretty damn good, except for the shark coming through the breaking glass which is just a botched shot in any dimension. The shots of the body parts and shark pieces coming out of the screen are phenomenal, and the depth is fantastic throughout; people who say the 3-D sucks in Jaws 3-D just don’t like 3-D IMO. Pay them no mind.

The effects suck but not the 3D.

That shot of the arm in Jaws 3D works amazingly well and its fun, but still looks awful due to the bad compositing. That's the biggest issue with Jaws 3D - almost all of the effects look awful. Well, the story didn't help. Somewhere in there was a fun idea but it's just boring. I'm still glad to own it in 3D of course. It's still a fun watch in 3D. Lots of strong depth. But the film isn't very good so there's no reason to watch it in 2D ever.

I have to respectfully disagree, I think the story line in Jaws 3-D was very fun, I'm glad they didn't just rehash the original film like they did with Jaws 2 (although I like Jaws 2 also)!

If you have never seen Revenge of the Creature in 3D I suggest watching it and you will see that Universal Studios took a page out of their past and went for a fun Saturday afternoon popcorn flick. Jaws 3-D was never supposed to be a masterpiece like the original Jaws it was just supposed to be entertaining and fun...and it was!

Also did you know that in 1983 Jaws 3-D was out selling Return of the Jedi when it was pulled from theaters? This is a fact, many people believe there was a back room deal between Universal and Lucas to pull Jaws 3-D because Lucas was embarrassed that his new Star Wars movie was being beaten at the box office by a Jaws sequel. Jaws 3-D could have (and would have) continued to make money and may have been considered a Box Office success had it not been pulled early.

Agreed, JAWS 3-D is super fun, despite the ropey effects. And that’s hilarious that it was beating JEDI at the box office.
