If those aren't firmware updates, what are they? Explain, please.

I just received my region-free player from 220-Electronics and am happy to report it is working great with my 4Ks and Region B locked blu-ray discs so far. Order was processed quickly and packed very nicely and cleanly. An instructions sheet for switching regions was included and very easy to follow.
I turned the 4K upscaling off in the settings to let my LG CX handle that, and I also set the picture quality mode to direct in the in-movie options after getting my first disc playing. I didn't see any other settings that looked like they needed changing. Great player so far and the controller is a lot more responsive than my old SANYO FWBP807FP's which is nice. That player is still going strong after five years, so between the two players I think I'm good until whatever supercedes 4k players comes out (if anything). I did keep all the packing materials as 220-Electronics instructed in case there are any future issues. I'm very happy with the purchase. Now on to collecting more Region B/C discs ![]() |

I pretty much just use this POS for SACD playback and last night I started getting a message that the player wouldn't play the format of the disc I put in. It was the Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here SACD. I unplugged it and tried it again and it worked. This machine really is junk.

My player recently started having a playback "issue" where the picture kind of goes "slo-mo" for a few seconds and then glitches back to normal. Can anyone tell me if the laser just needs cleaned or is this thing dying? I've only had it since beginning of 2020 and it's had...moderate to semi-heavy use.

Hey folks,
Anyone have thoughts on the UBP-X700's 4K upscaling for regular Blu-rays? Just got this player and debating whether to let the player do the work or leverage the upscaling on my TCL C745 or Sony STR-AN1000 receiver. Curious to hear your experiences! |

Most the time BDXL discs will not work in a standalone 4K Blu-ray player, and that is why they do not play in a standard 4K Blu-ray players. |

I don't know about the Sony, but most of the 4k uhd players (Panasonic) are pretty close to useless regarding usb media playback. I would say that it's better to mux the video in an mkv container, and burn the mkv file to disc. The playback from (bd-r) disc has much less restrictions than playing a file from a usb-media. For example, if your 4k HDR file happens to be a "backup of a uhd disc", no lossless audio is supported via usb.

A long time ago I verified that both the year 2016 OPPO UDP-203 and year 2017 Sony UBP-X800 work great with USB sticks and powered USB hard drives. I was able to playback 4K 3840 x 2160P family camcorder files using the MPEG-4/AVC codec (the better quality HEVC codec is used by 4K Blu-ray discs). Both Sony and OPPO support all resolution playback between 480i to 2160P (codec needs to be VC-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/AVC, MPEG-4/MVC, or HEVC). Massive amount of lossy and lossless audio formats are supported.
Both the OPPO and Sony 4K Blu-ray players support the same video and audio codecs and it does not matter if the media being played back is an optical disc or a 128GB to 1TB USB sticks. 4K Blu-ray players basically playback almost any type of video and audio media regardless if it’s a USB stick or a optical disc. I have connected a powered USB 3.0 22TB hard drive to the OPPO UDP-203 and it works fine, in theory should work on the Sony 4K Blu-ray players also. |
