I recently bought a Panasonic 420 UHD player. I would get pixel and sound issues on other discs but not the abyss, I took the player back and got a new one. now it plays the titles that the other one had issues with.

Got an email from Amazon last night - out of the blue - that my copy shipped and will be delivered today. The previous email I got from them said I would get it sometime at the end of April. So this was a nice surprise this morning!

Issue 1 was introduced by simply using the TC footage of Lindsey without considering that the added SE scene a moment earlier required a change in the background audio since it created a continuity issue. Issues 2 and 3 were introduced on the old DVD via branching when audio fades were employed to incorporate the additional SE scenes.

The 2.0 is error-free on both discs.

I tried the hairdryer trick with True Lies but, I don't think it was hot enough. The actors still look waxy. I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated

It would appear to be, yes. Though if they encoded it as Dolby Surround, then it wouldn't be a downmix in the traditional sense. Like I said, I'm not sure whether they did or not.

Well that was a lot of trial and error. Finally got this thing where I can play it with DV intact and the BD’s DTS-HD MA 5.1 track on my X700. FINALLY I can enjoy this movie…whew…

I watched the Theatrical last night night using my Vava 4K UST projector and 100 inch ALR screen Sound was from the built in 40 watt Harmon Kardon speakers. My plan was to watch an hour or so but that went right out the window. I could not turn it off. The sound was great!! Those with surround sound set ups will enjoy it..I believe. Now to the video. The Abyss looked fantastic to outstanding . I'm not saying there weren't a few moments here and there that were ..hmmm, that could be better, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed what I was seeing. Projectors can be very forgiving compared to OLEDS, I have two, but if you have one you are going to just love watching this on the big screen. I did experience a freeze up at about 46 minutes in, but when I reversed the disc and replayed the scene, it was fine. Was it film like..no..not really..was it more eye candy..yeah, but that translated well with my set up. I had so much fun watching this movie last night that I stayed up longer than planned and started to watch the SE for a bit. Once again it didn't take me long to realize why I like the Theatrical better.

All in all The Abyss 4K UHD provided a great night at the movies . Very highly recommended for those with projectors.

Couple circular scratches on my 4K disc (the 2 BDs were fine). I hate these bs stacker cases. The scratches are quite faint though, I almost didn't notice them, but I'll give the disc a spin this afternoon to make sure it plays through.

My copy from DMC had audio issues an hour in so I'm returning/exchanging mine. I made sure my player was up to date with firmware and had to do a hard reboot of my player 3 times last night to make it through the Special Edition Cut. I did not see any scratches on the disc. I tried again this morning and had the same problems.

IMDb (hardly definitive, but still) says this was stereo on 35mm prints and 6-track on 70mm prints (Fox always sent one to the premier theater in each major city in that era, when I was a kid).

My disc is due to arrive today, so I'm not sure, but does the 2-track have mono surround? This film, surprisingly, was released in Dolby A type with mono surround (70mm blow up), not SR, or with split surrounds.

Supposedly the 2.0 is a downmix of the 5.1 track on the Blu-ray, which is actually a 4.1 mix because the surrounds are mono. So the 2.0 matrixed in Dolby Surround should sound similar or at least close to the same, I think?

Was surprised they didn't crop out the guy getting panted during the tidal wave, but still there. Lol.

A stereo track matrix encoded with Dolby Stereo surround always has a mono surround "channel."

My error. I meant to indicate the base 5.1 (7.1?) in the Atmos, if anyone has tried it in a processor without Atmos.
