How typical is it that the most eagerly awaited of the three AND the least terrible-looking of the three is the one that gets the shit end of the stick?

What I don't get with these stackers is why they always always fookin ALWAYS put the UHD on top of another disc. You've got two hubs so keep one for the UHD on its own and put the two BDs together. Naturally, the other two discs are fine, the fookin BD25 they've used for the extras is particularly pristine. Just...ugh.

Admittedly it may play a-okay, but given all the issues people have been having I don't rate my chances. Good job I ordered the Italian edition a while back, it's not out until April but at least it won't look like someone's dropped it on the floor. If the US one won't play proper like I'll send it back to Amazon.
Oh man! Hope it plays ok. This is exactly why I hesitate with US imports due to all the scratched disc horror stories. May well order from a Europe source too.

I got mine the other day in the U.K via Amazon and it’s fine no issues at all. Hope that helps.

I am horribly behind on this thread. Is there a planned restock of this set or is it just gonna be forever OOP? Also what's this I hear about faulty discs? Forgive my lack of knowledge; I've only ever experience this film on Laserdisc.

It would be interesting to know how many backorders there are to fulfil.

Yeah, I watched the hell out of that Laserdisc

I assume they plan to restock. Some discs seem to have issues. Mine did.

I'm curious regarding those who don't have issues, anyone have a clean playthrough of the SE on the Panasonic 820? Trying to determine if it's a disc or player issue.

Some years back there was a disc restoring "cream" that was advertised in some game mags, I dont honestly know if such a thing worked or what the science is / was behind it...?

I seriously doubted that "cream" did anything to actually work. Any time I had a disc resurfaced it always gunked it all up, making it unreadably. It's only ever worked once for me, which shows how well that works.

I did wait like 25 min at a gaming store waiting for discs to get resurfaced, I got some free credits for the wait. Haven't tested out if they actually work or not but at least they don't look pale on the bottom.

EDIT: I've never tried resurfacing or putting any "cream" on a Blu-Ray disc, doesn't seem ideal to me.

Sony and Disney are the absolute WORST with doing this. Always stacking discs and putting the UHD ontop of another blu-ray and then the extras disc gets its own hub?? Make it make sense. What I did in the case of The Abyss is just put the BD of the film into a disc binder I have stored in one of the drawers of my TV stand. I won't be watching the BD anyway and now the 4K and the extras disc each get their own hub. Plan on doing the exact same thing when Aliens arrives. If they were gonna go the stacker route I would've almost preferred them to have just released these as UHD-only and then an extras disc. Won't be watching the BDs on any of these anyway, which is why it didn't really bother me that Paramount made Titanic a UHD-only release with just a BD of extras.

My UHD of The Abyss also had some circular scratches on the 4K but it played fine. And like yours, the 2 included BDs were absolutely pristine lol. Gotta love it.

And while I think Kino and Shout have gotten better as of late, Sony and Disney are now probably the worst offenders in my experience. I actually cannot believe that my Columbia Classics Vol. 4 set arrived with only 1 tiny nick on one of the discs (tested and it's fine). My Vol. 3 I had to exchange twice and even then had to piece together a set in order to get a collection where (most of) the discs were unscathed.

I had my local Disc Replay recently buff out a scratch on a DVD the other day and they use some kind of cream but they also have a special machine they use. So I'm not sure if there's a home version of anything like that.

My guess is that they simply don't care enough. They've already gotten your money, so why spend five cents on a tiny plastic hinge?
I forget which disc it was but I got a 4K and they put the 4K disc on the bottom with the extras disc on top of it.

I'd say you're probably correct in that assumption.

I totally was gonna snag that before anybody else, but I do plan on still purchasing the 4K.

Don't even need the hinge, just put the 4K on its own hub and stack the other two. It's not rocket surgery.

Yeah, I also swapped the 4K, which was on top of the bonus BD with both Abyss and Aliens, with the movie BD and that's it.

Not that there were any scratches anyway and I also can't say that I ever got scratched discs due to stacked discs, but why they NEVER give the most precious/delicate disc of such sets the separate hub really is beyond me.
