Single player games were never intended to be really long experiences. Even sandbox games could be completed fairly quick if you just focused on the main story. People wanting single player games to become 100+ hour experiences started with MMORPGs, like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XI. Except these were games designed to take you as long as possible, because they wanted you to keep paying a subscription fee. This just became worse with the induction of live service games, which are designed to keep constantly dropping new content so that players will ante up money repeatedly through micro transactions. The issue is that so many gamers started expecting this kind of length and steady influx of content from single player games, also. And it’s now why the AAA single player game experience is heavily starting to struggle, because of the exorbitant cost to develop these massive games and give them steady updates, but only make money from the consumer for it once.
This is exactly why I’ve been trying to put an emphasis on buying new games coming out that DO deliver more streamlined experiences. To show that not ALL gamers need every game to be huge time investments. Hence why I went with Alone in the Dark. |

Fallout 3, I spent easily 100+ hours completing all of the side quests and main story while also exploring at my own pace. I totally ignore worrying about any trophies, and when they appear, that's fine but never let it interfere with the fun experience of the game. Others enjoy the challenge of going for trophies, but it feels more like work to me. As far as 100 hours, that was easy when you love the game experience.

Good to hear. Have you unlocked the glider? It's cool they added something like that in this game set in the mid 1800s.

Yeah. You get it pretty early on. It’s a fun little thing to use. The game is loot city though. I’m spending so much time selling and changing my gear. It’s actually crazy how much loot there is.

I honestly thought this game was related to Ghost of Tsushima and then when I saw Gaming Bolt's review I was left pretty disappointed. It doesn't look like a PS5 game, more like an early PS4 title.
Guess it was my fault for being so hyped up. |

More to games than graphics. You know, like being fun. Which this game very much is.

Feels amazing. I suck at Wo Long/Elden ring type stuff and I am doing quite well with this one. Playing on Easy. I am 14 hours in. This will be as 100 hour plus video game for me. I'm doing everything. Playing on Ray Tracing mode with Frame Cap off. Combat is soooooo satisfying. I love it so much. I am a huge Ghost of Tsushima fan and love this just as much. It's literally Ninja Gaiden : Breath of the Wild lol. The glider is amazing. I unloccked it like 4 hours in (think I found it beofre story gives it to you. Story part with is is like 6ish hours in. Map is Huuuuge. 3 maps from what I gather. You unlock by raising banners. Great fun. Play it. ![]() The grapeling hook is great. I just unloced the grapple assination on the skill tree. My biggest gripe is the audio. You have to turn 3d audio on (not on by default). Being a Sony exclusive I expected more from the audio. It does not really utlize 3d sound or the haptics too much. I guess I should have not assumed it would have the same 3d sound/haptic treatment as Ghost if Tsushima. The graphics are what I expected from a Team Ninja game. Great Death animations. Very earthy tones with color. I think it looks great. Last edited by TecmoZack; 03-25-2024 at 07:33 PM. |

I will give it a go, though just have to complete a number of games I recently got soon. I am surprised Tecmo went exclusively with Sony instead of other platforms. I guess Sony gives them incentive with a bigger percentage of sales. |

I just watched the Digital Foundry tech review for the game and it's really poor in places by a modern game standard with the performance issues that seem to crop up as well as the various times the game has resolution dip as low as the 900p range.
I read a comment on the video that said PS3 coming full circle with less than 1080p development lol. The sad part in a comment i read was increased prices for a fall in resolution and its true. They are retailing this game at £70 it seems and the performance is sub par and graphically i would argue Ghost of Tsushima even on a remastered PS4 port to PS5 looks and performance in FPS is better. I am interested to play this but boy does it make a case for how gamers shouldn't bother pre-ordering any games at all and wait till they release for reviews and performance metrics. |

Wow this game is epic for me regardless of the PS3/PS4 graphics. Honestly the combat blows Ghost of Tsushima out the water. There is so many different kinds of real life weapons with different style, combos, and insane amounts of loot/gear. I'm constantly changing my clothes finding new stronger gear.
Also love that the AI isn't as stupid like in GOT, the stealth, combat all better for me. The glider is a great bonus also. Yes the clunky performance and graphics has been a bit mind blowing disappointing at times but I'm also into the Historical Japan stuff going on so the advantages of this game for me are beyond just *****ing about the graphics. Yes i know 70$ for a game like this with these type of graphics may not be ideal for hardcore elite fanboys but for guys like me this will be right up their ally.. |

Rise of Ronin, on PS5's rating listing for the game, has mostly 5/5 reviews or positive ratings. As of March 29, 2024, about 4000+ reviews on there, which is good for a new game.
PS5's rating system was not working at all last week for some unknown reason. |
