There’s also a 2013 tv mini series Russian version, though only digital, other than the eBay market that is. Has good reviews, but I haven’t seen it yet

Just finished watching this, it’s basically 8 1.5 hour movies. I thought the show was very good and enjoyed episodes 1-6 (1-12) and 8 (15-16) (not big on the one based on The Final Problem 13-14)). Holmes is not your traditional acting Holmes though, a bit of a neurotic, though he does evolve from the young neurotic to the last episodes Holmes. Luckily the time period is the traditional period of Holmes and Watson. Watson is excellent and brings in more of the ex-soldier but still in the vein of traditional Watson (apparently the actor died from a fall in the home after filming ended which is too bad). I would have preferred a second actor to play Mycroft but no big deal. I especially liked the episode based on The Musgrave Ritual and the one based on The Red-Headed League. The final episode (15-16) was a suitable send off for the show, unfortunate Alexei Panin (Watson)’ death prevented a second series or the suggested Professor Challenger series. Lestrade is also very good and apparently this was the actor who played D’Artagnan in the famous Russian late 1970’s musical version of The Three Musketeers which I have not seen. Also, the final episode (15-16), there is a short scene with some references to a dog and the actor may be the actor who played Dog in the older Russian film Heart of a Dog, though he is not listed on IMDb in the role

Thanks for the review.

I'm not likely to watch the Russian version.

If it should come out on blu-ray I'll be sure to list it.

Thanks for the great thread Richard. Just picked up all the individual Seasons for the Granada Jeremy Brett series. The most cost effective way to buy this at the moment and also prefer the packaging in standard cases.. It's actually the second time I've bought the series. Several years ago I had to let go of my first set. Can't wait for another watch....the games afoot!

Have you tried Peter Cushing's series?

He was well-ahead of Brett in his interpretation, I think.

The program is not as well-produced but it's still good.

I've always loved The Hound of the Baskervilles from Hammer with Peter. Big fan of his. I was looking at the Severin release of the series and it says they're are only 6 episodes that have survived. Is this true, or is the entire series streaming somewhere? For the record though, my favorite Holmes would be Jeremy Brett.

The Severin Blu has all of the surviving episodes of the Cushing Holmes.
