Well, this is my last forum post on the site. I am officially 'retiring' from here.

I figured I'd drop it in here because this is a thread I've visited most over the years on here. (If I made a new thread, it'd get deleted, I'm sure).

And, no, I don't think I'm some sort of 'celebrity', LOL, so you can spare me the 'Don't let the door hit you on the way out' types of replies.

I'm only posting about it to give a shout-out of thanks to a few posters whom I've had repeated, consistently positive interactions with over the 12 years I've been on here.

Some are: Gacivory, Cremildo, MifuneFan, bergman864, Dr. Herbert West, dancerslegs, DukeTogo84, spanky87, drush9999, UltraMario9, russweiss1

And please forgive me if I've forgotten anyone. Those are off the top of my head.

Anyway, it's been fun.

I'll still use the site some for release announcements, pre-order links, sales/deals, etc. for a little while, at least, anyway.

Goodbye.
Always a pleasure interacting with you. You will be missed. Take care.

I’d really like a 4k of Ridley Scott’s first film The Dualists. Could this be a potential Criterion release?

Feels like an Arrow release with their Paramount deal to me. Criterion do seem to like releasing a high level filmmaker's first film though. I'd love this and Black Rain on 4K from Paramount or a boutique

Can someone check if Comrades: Almost a Love Story and An Autumn Tale opens up with a Criterion logo? Those two titles are ones I have been searching for years and have heard a lot of great things about. I know that new restorations for both have been circling around the Asian markets for a few years now.

I looked at that page and saw that there was a link at the bottom for Pabst's Pandora's Box. With Louise Brooks.

The movie was never on BD, the DVD is out of print, I know there is a 4K print circulating, and the link says the film is available on DVD and BD. Is it possible that Criterion is going to issue a blu? ....maybe even a 4K?

This is one of my biggest wishes for home media. Should I get hopeful?

Yes, it's very likely coming later this year to BD.

An Autumn Tale and Farewell China open with the Criterion and Janus logos, while Comrades: Almost a Love Story and Full Moon in New York do not.

I'm very optimistic about An Autumn Tale coming out in the US. This one has caught my interests a lot as an Asian American and seeing one of my favorite film duos (Chow Yun-fat and Cherie Chung). I loved their chemistry in Wild Search, which is far from the best but is worth checking out (As a pseudo-remake of Harrison Ford's Witness).

Shame about Comrades, though. I can only imagine Radiance Films releasing this one now.

And thank you very much for checking these out. I haven't had much exposure to the other two you mentioned but this entire collection has intrigued me into subscribing to the channel again. This collection is one of the most interesting ones and I haven't found anything this good in a long time.

Mr. Vampire IV initially didn't open with the Criterion and Janus logos, but after a few months they eventually were added to it, so it is possible that will be the case with Comrades and/or Full Moon in New York, but who knows.

It's been on the Criterion Channel for awhile, but not as long as the other Jackie Chan films as I remember thinking it was probably acquired just a few months before the last set came out, otherwise, I think they might have included it. I guess it could eventually get a solo release.

Whenever I see this in a Toho movie or in old French movies, I think to myself that the masters they have are of value and what they distributed is only product for the unimportant masses, so can be covered up with watermarks.
There’s been rumors of 4K masters of Kurosawa and Ozu films for years, rumors of a 4K master of the original Godzilla movie, and most egregiously there are masters circulating in Japan claiming to be from the negatives, when Toho has told Criterion that only fine grains exist. It’s such a shitty way to do business.

I think it fell outside the theme of the box. (Although the Lucky Stars title did too, but that was included.)

Diskino is going to release Miracles on UHD in China later this year.

My copy arrived yesterday. For that price I could not refuse. I own the DVD, which I bought at Big Lots for $3 and I watched it once in 2012. I gave the PQ at the time 1.5 out of 5 stars. I only gave the movie itself 3 out of 5 stars, but I have a feeling that with this upgraded PQ that I'm going to enjoy it a lot more.

I was reading an old thread on Criterion Forum that the 2006 restoration of "Cabiria" (1914) was rumoured to be released by Criterion at some point. It never happened as we know, and I couldn't find much information about why it never did.

The 2006 restoration seems to have a running time of either 180 or 190 minutes, depending on the source. In any case, it is the most complete version of the film, as the most commonly available version runs at around 125 min - the 2000 Kino DVD runs at 123 min, for example.

Does anyone know why it was never released by Criterion on blu-ray? Or by any other label, as there doesn't seem to be any official blu-ray releases anywhere in the world.

It’s a waste of their acquisitions to give them the barebones/vanilla treatment IMO.

This also happened with NOTLD and releases from other labels like Méliès and Triumph of the Will.
