Personally IDGAF as I have discs, but canning their most epic show after Game of Thrones before the planned fifth and final season is definitely major bullshit.

Sad that I never got the chance to watch the final season because I would have not expected an HBO Series getting pulled from their own streaming service. Also, HBO was at fault for the final season not getting more viewers and old viewers back they did not bother to promote the new season.

The previous season failed in ratings because it was a shorter season even though they had enough time to start production but for some reason it started near when COVID hit.

WB is probably one of the worse Movie/TV series production at the moment next to Sony.

The last season of westworld has some weird pandemic energy going on, I couldn't finish it, loved the rest of the series though as messy at it could be.

What I found interesting in some of the recent obit articles was that supposedly the ratings started to tumble half-way through season 2, which is also when I stopped watching it as well. It fits in with that I have anecdotally found based on personal conversations - that episode that was entirely in Japanese seems to be the final trigger for a lot of us to just give up on it, LOL.

It wasn't because it was subtitled, it was that the show already had completely lost sense to many of us and then trying to keep up on top of that was just too much bother. I'm all for complex storytelling, but when you have to go on reddit and search out massive charts showing what scene was in what time period just to understand what is going on, it clearly reached too far.

It's a shame, because I love the premise - but it just seemed like they weren't interested in the premise of theme park gone wrong and just used it as a framework for something entirely different, which just ultimately didn't hold my interest.

I think the moral of the story is this: don't turn your main sympathetic protagonist (Dolores) into a psychopath in the Second Season. You might start to lose your audience because you've set them up as someone to care about and then you start losing characters to root for.

Yep. I mean, I don't agree with the subtitled thing but it was more the narrative in general. Sure, the first season did a similar thing with fractured timelines but they doubled down on it in S2 and I thought it was bewildering: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...5#post15891135 As such, the more straightforward shoot-em-up stylings of S3 came as a blessed relief. But I gave up on S4 before the end, though I'll be viewing them all again on UHD at some point.

Exactly this, it lost me in the second half of season 3 when Dolores basically became the Terminator, it got stupid and i couldn't suspend my disbelief any more.

Season 3 was the highlight for me. I’m not big on westerns but LOVE future sci fi and especially when it’s lavishly shot on location using some of the best interiors in the world with beautiful psychopaths lounging around in cape power suits so . Season 4 was still fun too and I was looking forward to seeing how far off the rails they went with season 5. It was a bold premise giving us a whole run set after the death of all human life. Such a shame.

I enjoyed the show all the way through however, season one was arguably the best I had hoped for more in that setting. The second season was good as it expanded the 'park' The last two seasons were decent the issue I had probably as many others were the gap due to Covid. To be honest I forgot who was who given different people were in other people's bodies it was quite jarring and I couldn't remember what had happened. A shame it never got to the final season I'm still not sure how far the simulation went.

“Is there any possibility that Westworld‘s original planned ending will be dramatized in any form — whether as a graphic novel or a movie or anything? Do you still have hope for that?”

“Yes, 100 percent. We’re completionists. It took me eight years and a change of director to get Interstellar made. We’d like to finish the story we started.” - Nolan
