Meaning that planned for a sequel and an animated series. The movie did end on a cliffhanger though.

I'll give a pass to that scene because you'd think with it being a super powerful "modern" spaceship, it still has manual wheels and knobs to position it. It's obviously steampunk. |

I actually had time to go make a cup of tea and then pop to the toilet for a quick pooh before that grain harvesting slo-mo shot had ended.

It’s not so much about it being extended, but more about certain scenes being shot differently from what I’ve gathered.
Could be totally different movies tone wise. And if they are also extended by 30 minutes or so, to fleshen out certain characters, the reviews might be better. |

15 minute slo-mo wheat harvesting montage, 15 minute cute banners from the children montage, 15 minute sitting around talking about where everybody came from, while Djimon Hounsou strangely has a never ending single tear flowing down his cheek montage, 15 minute A-Team style setting up the plan montage, and then it actually has some pretty badass sci-fi action and effects for the second hour.
I give it a 437 out of 783. |

Style over substance.
That's the easiest way to sum up this movie and i would argue the prior movie to a large extent as well but at least the first movie tried to introduce the space politics and so on to understand the universe this story is taking place on. However here there's little to no world building extension, bar perhaps a scene with the characters nefarious namesake birth. This movie has so many half baked scenes that even whilst i normally try to switch off, i just couldn't move past how blatantly moronic choices were made during the battle. There's also a loose attempt to try and set up many scenes but it just falls apart under the slightest scrutiny of single digit IQ analysis. I do not hate Snyder as i seem to have come across some people who throw away all his works but this IP and Sucker Punch as it released are just not great movies. There's a story to be told in this world and had it gestated more with proper script, it could have actually fared significantly better. Also, i want to make it very clear that this whole BS obsession with vaseline smear on multiple shots needs to go die. I absolutely hate it and it's not the first movie to use it. It literally looks like somebody going through an eye test in many shots. ![]() The whole scene during the [Show spoiler] The movies peppered with stupidity. It actually annoys me how many times i saw a scene unfold and i couldn't switch the popcorn logic on and just go with the flow. I think what also adds to the issue is there's a lot of barebones substance to some of these characters and you never really get to root for them in the way you should. These are people who you want to and know you should be really wanting to overcome the odds, but then you see the literal plot armour in the most obvious visual form. I think the people who [Show spoiler] If there's one thing i would say, it's that there's probably nothing you couldn't probably take out the indulgent slow motion crap, and half baked plot extensions to make this a leaner movie that told both of what part 1 and 2 does over a single movies runtime. I think the IP actually would have worked significantly better as a show series with hour long episodes. Maybe around 5-8 episodes with a properly formed script. The ending btw, is a complete [Show spoiler] I liked 300, the slow mo kinda worked there and the story was thin enough to not need grandiose exposition. Its like bad guys come, we fight or we die and blah blah, blah. Watch some cool fights but where you could forgive the ample slow motion there because it actually zipped between two speeds and actually felt like an art form. Here it seems like it's used without a real reason many times. I'm going to rate it 3 stars on the polls because the out of 10 rating is what i would usually use and its definitely not a 2 star/4 out of 10 movie for me, but 3 stars comes closest to the score of what i feel this maybe lands on. Its around a 6. A very weak 6 that i would say even maybe hovers around 5.5/10. |
