Meaning that planned for a sequel and an animated series. The movie did end on a cliffhanger though.

It will probably be a castle in space. Some kind of space station. Has that been done before?

I saw he wants to do a director cut of Sucker Punch. Seems like he is going to be leaving a string of unfinished projects out there.

I'll give a pass to that scene because you'd think with it being a super powerful "modern" spaceship, it still has manual wheels and knobs to position it. It's obviously steampunk.

2) The FF button is your friend. Dab liberally during moments of backstory, farming, bonding/'emotion.'
3) Have a good look at the ray tracing(?) on the robot and the smoke particle FX. Very nice. Ignore the tiny sets with CGI extensions.
4) The Cary Elwes scene is intriguingly comical, do not FF.

Worse than part 1, praying for part 3. Maybe cast Charlotte Rampling as a robot?
Can I use the FF button to make the action scenes only regular slow-mo rather than SuperSnyderSlow-Mo?

I actually liked the first one but this was borderline excruciating. The entire first hour.... I hope to never see slo-mo grain harvesting with bad folk music ever again.

I actually had time to go make a cup of tea and then pop to the toilet for a quick pooh before that grain harvesting slo-mo shot had ended.

It’s not so much about it being extended, but more about certain scenes being shot differently from what I’ve gathered.
Could be totally different movies tone wise.
And if they are also extended by 30 minutes or so, to fleshen out certain characters, the reviews might be better.

The second film in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon series arrived on Netflix this past weekend and quickly rose to the top of the streamer's daily movie ranks. Despite winning the opening weekend, however, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver wasn't able to match the debut numbers of its predecessor. According to Netflix's newest streaming numbers, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire delivered roughly 10 million more streaming hours than its newly released sequel.

When the first Rebel Moon was released in December, the film was viewed for more than 54 million hours in its first three days. Tuesday saw Netflix release the viewership from the past week, where Rebel Moon 2 debuted as the streamer's number one overall movie, but it was only viewed for 44 million hours.

15 minute slo-mo wheat harvesting montage, 15 minute cute banners from the children montage, 15 minute sitting around talking about where everybody came from, while Djimon Hounsou strangely has a never ending single tear flowing down his cheek montage, 15 minute A-Team style setting up the plan montage, and then it actually has some pretty badass sci-fi action and effects for the second hour.

I give it a 437 out of 783.

Zack Snyder Clarifies Those Controversial Rebel Moon and Barbie Comparisons

Quote:
We asked Snyder if that statement was meant to suggest he believes theatrical distribution is less important these days than it has been in the past.

“Oh, no, I would say it’s kind of the opposite,” Snyder told io9. “What I was implying was, well, there are two things. One is I was just going by the numbers that I was given by Netflix. People are like, ‘Oh, well, Snyder’s crazy’ but literally I just am doing [math] with this, not anything else. If now we’re close to 100 million viewers, 100 million views times two is 200 million views ... So, people are like, ‘Snyder’s delusional,’ and I am just like ‘I don’t know what to tell you.’”

“The cultural significance of Barbie was happening when it was in the theaters,” Snyder said. “That’s when we all took a bite of the Barbie apple, and happily. And so my only point is that I think there is a theatrical zeitgeist [and] even though maybe more people have eyes on something, the actual sort of cultural significance is dictated still by the theater.”

They kind of threw a curveball question at him, that really had nothing to do with what he said. He never said that Netflix Distribution is better than Theater.

Sorry, I didn't quote the full article, just those two paragraphs that I found the most interesting. The lead-up to the streaming thing puts it more into context:

Quote:
“Say right now, [Rebel Moon has] like almost 90 million views … 80 or 90 million accounts turned it on, give or take,” Snyder originally said on Joe Rogan last month. “They assume two viewers per screen, right? That’s the math … so that’s 160 million people supposedly watching; 160 million people at $10 a ticket, that’s $1.6 billion. [Barbie made $1.5 billion.] So more people probably saw Rebel Moon than saw Barbie in the theater. That’s how crazy Netflix is— that’s the distribution model that they’ve set up.”

We asked Snyder if that statement was meant to suggest he believes theatrical distribution is less important these days than it has been in the past.

Right, I read the whole thing. They kind of set him up and he walked right into it.

This is the part I was talking about.

Style over substance.

That's the easiest way to sum up this movie and i would argue the prior movie to a large extent as well but at least the first movie tried to introduce the space politics and so on to understand the universe this story is taking place on. However here there's little to no world building extension, bar perhaps a scene with the characters nefarious namesake birth.

This movie has so many half baked scenes that even whilst i normally try to switch off, i just couldn't move past how blatantly moronic choices were made during the battle. There's also a loose attempt to try and set up many scenes but it just falls apart under the slightest scrutiny of single digit IQ analysis.

I do not hate Snyder as i seem to have come across some people who throw away all his works but this IP and Sucker Punch as it released are just not great movies. There's a story to be told in this world and had it gestated more with proper script, it could have actually fared significantly better.

Also, i want to make it very clear that this whole BS obsession with vaseline smear on multiple shots needs to go die. I absolutely hate it and it's not the first movie to use it. It literally looks like somebody going through an eye test in many shots.

The whole scene during the
[Show spoiler]barn with Nemesis i genuinely couldn't help but feel tht she suddenly got gimped in her fighting ability to the point it looked like a complete amateur compared to her initial introduction in the first movie and many fight scenes. She should have easily dispatched the grunts and that's before you go back to what i said about moronic choreography to let certain things happen like soldiers shooting through a door and not getting immediately shot back by Lover Boy Soldier or any of the women being taught to chop and slice with farm tools bothering to try defend themselves during any of the fighting.

Then you have the scene with the face paint lady swimming out and deciding to blow up the tank which is fine and all, but then try to over expose when fighting afterwards whilst the Tarak scenes do even more to confuse you when he leads with axes when he clearly should be shooting.. He's basically the King apparent to the homeworld he fled from and they dress him up to look like a native American when his entire heritage was royalty and typical suit wearing. Not to mention the stupidity of his mum committing suicide rather than choosing to flee with her only son and try maybe an attempt to muster her influence in eventually retaking their home

The movies peppered with stupidity. It actually annoys me how many times i saw a scene unfold and i couldn't switch the popcorn logic on and just go with the flow. I think what also adds to the issue is there's a lot of barebones substance to some of these characters and you never really get to root for them in the way you should. These are people who you want to and know you should be really wanting to overcome the odds, but then you see the literal plot armour in the most obvious visual form.

I think the people who
[Show spoiler]died like Nemesis and Gunnar didn't even feel like they were a loss and that's a really strong problem the movie has. It means it failed to build this necessary connection to the characters the audience should have to them by that point

If there's one thing i would say, it's that there's probably nothing you couldn't probably take out the indulgent slow motion crap, and half baked plot extensions to make this a leaner movie that told both of what part 1 and 2 does over a single movies runtime.

I think the IP actually would have worked significantly better as a show series with hour long episodes. Maybe around 5-8 episodes with a properly formed script.

The ending btw, is a complete
[Show spoiler]load of crap. Titus magically coming out with the Princess being alive and cliff hanger the ending to have a 3rd was actually pathetic for me at that point. The whole Resistance showing up to fight that late in the movie genuinely felt hollow and like it didn't matter. Her lines at the end also felt rubbish and amateur. Perhaps a fitting parallel for the movie too

I liked 300, the slow mo kinda worked there and the story was thin enough to not need grandiose exposition. Its like bad guys come, we fight or we die and blah blah, blah. Watch some cool fights but where you could forgive the ample slow motion there because it actually zipped between two speeds and actually felt like an art form. Here it seems like it's used without a real reason many times.

I'm going to rate it 3 stars on the polls because the out of 10 rating is what i would usually use and its definitely not a 2 star/4 out of 10 movie for me, but 3 stars comes closest to the score of what i feel this maybe lands on. Its around a 6. A very weak 6 that i would say even maybe hovers around 5.5/10.
