New Colossus seems to have skipped the playtesting/difficulty-tuning part of development. The difficulty is really rough and usually way too difficult, especially given the level design. You have the fragility of a stealth game character, but the level design and enemy placement feels more akin to Doom. You don't have enough health to offset the amount of enemies you have to take down and the lack of cover available to you, leading to a lot of deaths. It's like they were planning on putting in a health-restoring mechanic a la Glory Kills, but just forgot to implement it. Hopefully, patches can fix some of the difficulty spikes, but this really should not have been a problem in the first place.

For all the talk about difficulty, I have to admit, it is possible to save yourself a lot of torture by remembering to manually save, which you can do in the middle of combat. I always forget until it's too late and get sent back to the checkpoint. And in spite of it all, I'm finding it pretty much fun. A lot of deaths are pretty cheap and annoying, I have to admit. You kill a commander, for instance and let down your guard, and a Panzerhund jumps out...dead...start over.
The scene with Hitler was hilarious. |

Well unlike the first game, the cut scenes seem far longer (they maybe are) due to truly terrible writing which makes them feel like they just aren't going to ever end. Which given one of the first games strength this "please think i'm cool" writing is rather disappointing.

I bought this with the steelbook for £29.99 about 8 days ago and come today (Black Friday) they decided to drop it down yo £19.99. Luckily for me, it was still sealed AND I kept the receipt. Went back and got me my £10 refund
![]() Heard good things, so doubt it will drop rapidly by much more. |

This game is amazing if you ask me. I'm probably 4-5 hours in and the story is fun. I agree its not easy, but it doesn't feel impossible to me either.
My only issue is, does anyone get a static on the blacks sometimes? usually during cut scenes. Its strange. sometime when sneaking around, looks like snow in the blacks. Does not happen all the time. Seems like something to patch? |

I'm definitely not enjoying this as much as the previous game. it all just feels so uninspired, especially the level design. I'm in Manhattan now so I'm not sure how much I've got left, perhaps it picks up but I feel like I've played a big portion of the game.
