You’ll need to watch the theatrical cut as well (or rip the disc) to make sure it’s perfect, but so long as you got a slip without the sticker, you’re hopefully okay.

Which is the problem because I've got a lot going on right now and just don't have the time to watch both versions, which is why if there are any scratches, back it goes for another copy. I have to assume they may have playback issues.

A trick I do is the shine my phone spotlight on the disc, straight on direct…that SHOULD reveal any circular scratches that may be there and not visible in normal lighting. Yeah, my three prior copies looked great at first glance but then when they wouldn’t rip I did that and found the scratches. Super annoying.

Just got my Scandinavian copies of The Abyss and Aliens today, ordered from CDON. Pristine looking discs, no scratches, as expected. I'm going to start with lower expectation release by watching Aliens tonight. Interesting to see how it looks. I can live without film grain.

Could be one of literally hundreds of file on the 4K disc. Same story here. All of the sticker versions I got had scratches and various files were corrupt. The non-stickered one is fine. The BD’s were always okay I believe.

Okay that makes sense. My 4K disk was scratched to hell on the sticker version, but it was also loose.

Honestly, Amazon’s service is pretty stellar. It’s not super obvious on the web site, but I know there’s a way to get on a “chat” with a customer service rep. I’d just do that and explain that the package never arrived and they’ll probably send you another. It’s nothing to them.

Finally got shipping confirmation for my Amazon.es order of The Abyss. They must have been on siesta or something, as I order from them quite a bit and they've never stalled on an order this long.

Anyone see the new YouTube video about the lens wipes during the drowning scene???
Absolutely unbelievable that I’ve never noticed that in all these years of watching the film. YouTube: “The Abyss” (1989) scene, with a glaring distraction Warning: don’t watch that unless you want to see a goof that you will see forever and always every time you watch the film now. |
