The HD master was first minted when Anchor Bay had access to the film elements before they went to the South African investor. It's not "lost" per say, just probably hard and costly to access in Africa now. Second Sight (who have the UK licence) are running into the same issues with getting access to the OCN held by that SA investor.

Second Sight took a huge risky gamble and got UK streaming, TV, and theatrical rights included in Rubenstein's several million ransom for that title package (which was originally just for home video rights). He accepted and SS management assumed they could easily get that back with just streaming and theatrical screenings alone.

I'd hope we get TCM: The Beginning as well. Really dig that one, super nihilistic.

And the current WB blu-ray is missing the infinitely superior unrated cut.

Elm Street 1 just got announced on 4K UHD from Warner. Not sure if they’re using the OCN.

I don't see why they wouldn't be using the OCN. NOES should look amazing in 4K.

And ugh what a shame about Day of the Dead. We have great 4K restorations of Night and Dawn but looks like a new 4K of Day won't be happening for some time (if it does at all).

Ughhhh why can’t Mr. Krueger just get the respect he deserves, with a super deluxe box set edition of the complete franchise, with each film freshly scanned & restored, each presented on its own 4K UHD (no double feature discs!), with new retrospectives, interviews, unseen behind the scenes footage and/or deleted scenes, a nice, solid collector’s box, and most importantly — any and all uncensored/extended cuts we can get.

All the other horror icons have gotten the lavish collector’s box set treatment (even Damien and The Fly!)… so why not Freddy!?

don’t they just do the scans, put them on the disc and then send those negatives or whatever materials they get back to the supplier?

if that’s the case, then someone on that end screwed up and lost it.
if anyone has insight on how that stuff works please let me know. I’d be very curious to find out how the stuff works.
I think the scans are done by a 3rd party, like a studio that has a scanner, latest software etc.

This is a great insider recounting of some of the history of physical media. Kudos to Cliff, so often these YT interviews are just talking up future releases.

Oh, I really hope that means we will be getting a Blu ray of Night Life. Underrated zombie gem

It’s also a UK only release at this point, which is interesting.

This is likely just following the same pattern that The Exorcist did. The UK will get a deluxe collectors edition and the US will get the standard steelbook release. This is Warner and so they are going to use the same disc for all releases world wide. The only difference will be in the physical packaging. The US release will be announced soon enough.

We also know that the 2010 Remake is coming to 4k this fall as well. Given these two known releases, I'm expecting at least a few (if not all) of the other sequels to pop up over the next 12 months as well in some capacity.

If Warner did a survey asking people to choose between a 4K of Freddy's Revenge or the remake, the internet would implode in favor of Freddy's Revenge. Seriously, nobody wants the 2010 film on 4K. They should stop wasting time with stuff nobody wants and give people what they really want.

Pretty depressing that the people who get to decide what is released, are so out of tune with what people really want. From stuff not being released, to awful cover art and zero new extras when they are released.
