Default Vintage Speakers Help

I recently found for speakers that my dad own and claimed them since they're were sitting doing nothing. Two are the Pioneer hpm 100 (I've read great things abouth them, I believe they're from 1979 approx.) and the other two are the Pioneer Cs-e 9000. The finish and the grille are seriously damaged but not enough to damage the speakers. I might check Craz-Blu's finish project wih the Polks. Any help of how can I repair them or know if the speaker (audio wise) is damaged? Obviously other than hearing hissing or distortion, but maybe they're not sounding the best they can and I wouldn't know since they're too old. Any help would be appreciated

Parts Express is a good source for replacement drivers, grills, cabinets, vinyl cabint coverings, etc.

Also, read DIY Subwoofer/Speaker Building, Repairing, & Upgrading. There are many useful links at the end of Post #2.

As far as the cabinets are concerned ! If you like the shape & the way they look & want to repair them over replacing them . I would need to see some pictures of the damage . It would be A good Idea to have close ups of the damage & then some back from the speaker so I can see what you are working with ! Then I could make suggestions & give you some ideas & options .

wow I just connected the Pio Hpm-100 and just WOW, these speakers get LOW. I tried them as fronts, I now have one of them as my center, set aside my polk cs150 which was my weakest link and next upgrade, and just wow, I'm keeping it in the center, the sound is amazing, the bass is incredible, I'm definitely painting these babies, probably black to match my other speakers. I'm going to be testing them, If I' replacing anything I'll pm you SammyG. These HPM100 are not in bad shape aesthethically, they just need a polish and painting. I'm just overwhelmed.

I painted yesterday one of the speakers in black with a silver "frame" to match the polks. Unfortunately I'll have to paint it again because spots can be seen in the painting.

Sorry about the quality, mobile upload. I'll borrow my sister's camera later on for better quality

I just need to repair the grille although I can't think of how but something will come up. I'm going to try to make the grill a bit smaller so the silver frame can be seen like the polks.
