Maybe they have a 19" CRT from 1977

1977?! Heck, they could have a 27" from the 90's, those DVDs would still look great!

There are unfortunately a number of scenes like that where something moving in the foreground looks flat, outlined and superimposed on the background. That said, it is not bad enough to ruin the experience for me; though I appreciate so much more could have been done.

My best guess would be it’s a newer 4K scan, so the AI had more real detail to work with, whereas at least with Aliens, the AI had a lot more detail to make up considering the old 2K scan.

Does anyone know why this is hard to find so soon and all of a sudden?

I missed it when it was released but I'm now I'm only seeing second hand copies on ebay (prices jacked up of course). Amazon has it for $24 but it's a third party and they're charging $14 for shipping so F that.

Just be patient. I've had this on my wish list for a long while. Amazon received more after the initial release sold out for $25 if memory serves. It sold out again.

be glad you both waited like I did, because the second run has a revised and vastly superior packaging over the first run

the first run packaging was ass, because they stacked both the 4K and special features disk on top of one another and put the remastered BD on the other side in its own hub, after complaints of numerous scratched disks and playback issues Disney very wisely revised the packaging to have a foldable plastic with one disk on each side (which I believe is why the second run took so long to get into circulation)

Finished watching the special edition today, and I must say, this is one of the clearest films that I've ever seen on the format.

I have yet to see another film with this level of clarity

I’ve been reading this thread off and on for awhile. It’s caused me to hesitate getting the UHD. Yesterday, I attended a showing of The Abyss at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood and Vine in Hollywood. The technical setup was as good as one could ask for. The theater is a black box, very bright, sharp laser projector with excellent black levels, fully calibrated Atmos setup, etc. Prior to the showing, the people who worked on the sound design and editing gave a talk.

Wow, people are spot on with their critiques of this transfer. Other than the opening title, it’s scrubbed essentially completely free of the look of film. It’s the most egregious example of a filmmaker showing a loathing for film (HIS film, HIS effort that he shot on film) I’ve ever seen in a theater. It virtually screamed “you’re watching video”. There were scenes that looked “impressively” sharp, but in other scenes, not so much. The digital manipulations were obvious. I doubt that I’ll get this. It’s just too much.

I am sure there are others, but try Arrow’s 4k of Naked Lunch. MUCH better clarity, and that is without any excessive sharpening having been applied.

Is the Hulu stream the same transfer? I'm sure this has been answered, so I'm sorry I completely forgot.

I came here to ask a question about the 4k disc but I see the usual transfer arguments. I am kind of tired and sick of this. Every other thread is the same. I miss the HD blu ray days.

People like to *****. it would be cool to talk about the film itself.
There are certain movies that we all have a connection on a deeper level. that is not even about the film itself.

I had ear issues so going swimming was very difficult for me growing up. coming off from a divorced family. you can see the connection before getting into the movie part.

I see, because back then nobody complained about DNR, sharpening, EE, original audio, or, you know, the general format of a given movie on this here forum dedicated to that format?
