Thanks to the Panasonic dude who told me.
THANK YOU. Mine was on, gonna check a few discs to see if this works. I've been getting real fed up lately with how many times glitching has happened on my player and I've only had it since late last year. "Single White Female" from Scream Factory, "Body Double" from Indicator, and "New York Ripper" 4K from Blue Underground were just some of them I can remember off the top of my head that had issues.

EDIT - This seems to have fixed the issue with "Single White Female" but then again I tried a new copy Shout! had sent me instead of the old problematic copy, but I'm assuming they're the same exact discs. Unfortunately, I'm still having problems with the "New York Ripper" 4K. Blue Underground wants me to mail in the disc so they can test it before sending me a new one. I'm thinking I might mark the disc somehow so I can tell if they just send it back to me saying there's nothing wrong with it. I've also tried the disc on my LG UP870 4K player and it has the same glitching issues.

BUT, in case you didn't know, the Pannysonics have a 'feature' which forces DV onto everything on a disc if it detects that DV is present anywhere on it, e.g. you might have an SDR company logo, an HDR10 menu and a DV main feature on the same disc but the Panny will force the DV on all of it. Sometimes a disc which doesn't has DV might have some junk in its coding which is indicating that DV is present, so the Panny then forces it to on. This happened to me with one of the DC animated Warners UHDs, can't remember which one tho
You can turn off DV on the 9000p1k ? I hope so .

If you know the movie is in HDR only or you want to watch any of the extras, you need to go into the player's settings from the main menu and disable DV, then remember to turn it back on if you want to watch a movie that does have DV.

While you should absolutely pursue getting a replacement UHD for New York Ripper, the included Blu-ray is probably a better viewing option as it doesn't have the blown-to-hell cyan blue and greens that the UHD has and looks very strong.

Is DV 100% the way to always go ? For some reason some time's it look's green or just not much of a pop and I just shut it off all together . HDR seems to look better alone , Must be my settings . I have not had much time to play with all of this yet . A lot of family issues going on .

I have a UB9000 that is now sitting in a closet. Had it setup with a professionally calibrated Sony A9F OLED. Didn't like the picture when set to DV. Always looked blown out with that green tint. Just kept it on HDR10 and used the Optimizer. I then switched my player to an Oppo 205 and now just love the picture in DV. That's my preferred format for all DV movies. Something about the way the Panasonic handles DV that is not compatible with the Sony. The Oppo by the way is the best blu ray and 4K payer I've owned.

If I were to swap out the drive unit of my UB9000 with a different (compatible) model, is there anything specific that needs to be performed in terms of firmware updates or similar, and if so, how would you go about doing so? Anything else to be aware of?

Currently have a TXP0126 that needs to be replaced, and obviously this older model is not available anymore (seems like only TXP0036A is available in my area).

First, my setup:
So I have the Panasonic ub820 connected via hdmi to a Samsung Q60T TV connected via hdmi e-arc to Sonos Beam 2 soundbar. The Samsung has passthrough enabled.

[Show spoiler](The Samsung TV is not Dolby Vision capable but I can live with that as it's the item I've had the longest and I wasn't planning forward at the time.)

Last night, I was watching Mad Max Black & Chrome edition on blu-ray and was getting these audio drop outs at approximately 10 minute intervals. I'm pretty certain it's not a disc issue as I was able to rewind and hear the audio fine. I was also able to test if setting changes fixed the issue by starting the film up at the same scene over and over from the scene selection menu and playing for 10 minutes to hear the audio drop out (or not).

I also had a similar issue recently when trying to watch the The Others 4K (Studio Canal) although it happened less frequently, maybe 3 or 4 times during the film, and my wife swears it has happened with other discs as well, including with our previous Sony blu-ray player, but I don't really remember this. (This was before we had the soundbar and audio was just being output to the TV)

The only "fix" I could get to work was to change the digital audio outputs from bitstream to PCM which obviously results in the Sonos soundbar not playing the full quality audio, but at least I can avoid the distraction of the audio drops for the time being.

I also have an Apple TV 4K connected through the TV to the Sonos soundbar which when I play an appropriate file on iTunes (tested with Mission Impossible:Fallout), the Sonos display shows as playing Dolby Atmos audio.

Now, I think my HDMI cables are only 2.0, but all 3 I have in use are the exact same kind purchased at the same time. I'm thinking of getting an HDMI 2.1 cable to see if that solves it, but would I be fine only replacing the cable from the Panasonic to the TV, considering the Apple TV is able to pass through Dolby Atmos audio without issue over the other two cables?

But the cable is more likely.

Hope that helps.
Thanks for the feedback, but now I've tested using 2.1 hdmi cables first just between the UB820 and the Samsung TV and then also between the TV over eARC to the Sonos soundbar and the problem persists. The audio drop actually occurs a few seconds earlier on some of my run throughs now.

I've also done a test play with eARC disabled and it's not that either. The problem also exists if the Soundbar is not connected as I tried to connect the soundbar directly to the UB820 hdmi audio out, but the Sonos doesn't allow that (I had read an old post that it wouldn't and now I know that's still true).

Currently suspecting the Samsung TV cannot juggle the audio stream for long depending on the size, even with passthrough enabled.

Open to any other suggestions I could try. I've watched the same ten-minute stretch of Mad Max: Fury Road now (starting from scene selection 10).

I have an old Sony blu-ray player in a closet that I'm going to test in the coming days to see if the issue occurs the same.

You don't mention it here, but have you tried connecting the ub820 directly to the soundbar with the secondary audio HDMI? (It will take toggling that secondary audio on in the player settings) That would bypass the Samsung completely for audio and confirm it is, in fact, the TV.

I did try this but Sonos soundbars apparently don't allow connecting straight to a Panasonic player.

Just to make sure I had the settings correct, it's just HDMI(Video) Output Mode = Auto and HDMI(Audio) Output Mode = Audio Only in the settings?

I'm pretty sure that's right, though I have not used it. (my player sends one HDMI to my receiver, which passes things on/through from there) What you're saying makes sense to me. However, I assume you mean that when you tried it the Sonos played nothing. Could it be that it's just in the wrong format? (i.e., bitstream vs PCM) I can't imagine any soundbar would not accept the signal directly like that. Someone else with a similar setup may need to weigh in here...

Just to clarify, when you connect the 820 to the Samsung, you still get dropouts?

I'd try hard resetting the player. Also double check that Input Signal Plus is enabled for the 820 and the eARC.

Default DP-UB820-K Question?

I might purchase a DP-UB820-K soon, either a region free hacked model or I might do the region hack on the software..... I'm trying to slowly upgrade my setup without going broke buying everything at once. I know I should start with the receiver- but I want to upgrade to 7.2.4 the receivers prices are a little rich right now.....

I have a pre-4K Yamaha Receiver and Optoma projector (1080p). Will this player work to play blu-ray and dvd discs or will it not do the handshake with the older receiver?

Any chance it would work using an HDMI Splitter With HDCP Bypass?

It should work without the splitter with player set to output in 1080p in REC709 colorspace. You only need the newer HDCP if output is set to 4K. The old HDCP spec should be fine with output set to 1080p. Splitter should be a last resort.

All 4K Blu-ray players can be connected to any TV or projector with a HDMI input. If the TV or projector is older then 16 years old a HDMI to DVI adapter cable can be used and the digital or analog audio outputs. If HDCP version 2.2 or greater is not detected then all 4K Blu-ray players will downscale to HDCP 1.4 and also max resolution of 2K (1080P). All 4K Blu-ray players will upscale and downscale between any resolution like 480i SD, 480P SD, 720P HD, 1080i HD, 2K 1080P HD, and 4K 2160P Ultra HD.

I'm really getting sick and tired of my UB820 not being able to get through a viewing of a blu-ray without issues.. this time it was Scream Factory's "Vice Squad" disc. This is the 3rd or 4th blu-ray disc in the last month to month and a half that I've had problems with. Still never had an issue with an actual 4K disc though. Anyways, ejected the disc and put it in my much older LG UP870 4K player and no issues at all with playback.

I originally got this player late last year when it was on sale at Amazon for under $300 (I think) and thought it was gonna be the answer to all the problems I used to have with my Sony UBP-X800. I don't know anymore. If I ever start having issues with 4K discs I guess I'm gonna be on the look out for something better.

You can send audio to an older receiver directly and send the video to the projector.
