Default Wrath of Khan does anyone agree

I know alot think this is the best trek movie so although i know not many will agree i just wondered if any of you thought like me that the first 40mins are slow and boring and aslong as you basically know
[Show spoiler]spock saves the ship by sacrificing himself
you can enjoy search for spock much more which i think is a more enjoyable film and runs along at a better pace.Ok waiting for that 1 person now who agrees

Wrath of Khan is the 7th best fantasy movie of all-time. It had everything - action, drama, romance, comedy, suspense and tragedy. Best Star Trek film to date and I doubt that will ever change.

Why is it important for you to (like or dislike) what someone else does?

Each of us are different and that is a wonderful thing.

Nothing so drastic, you just have different taste, nothing wrong with that.

Wrath Of Khan is without a doubt the best Star Trek movie and let's not turn this into another thread where we argue for 40 pages how Star Trek 2009 is the best one, it's not. It's not a bad movie, far from it but you can't have a movie with Kirk, Spock & McCoy without Shatner, Nimoy & Kelley no matter what amazing job the actors replacing them do.

Why do you think the new Star Trek borrowed half its references from the movie?

I'll see your "7th best fantasy" and raise you "On the short-list of 10 Best TV-Rerun Spinoff Movies Ever Made, if not topping it".

Star Trek II is easily the best Star Trek film made to date, not to mention one of the better genre films.

Star Trek at its core has always been character and idea driven more than effects driven, and that's what the first act of the film is all about, setting up the characters and themes for the final act to fulfill.

So True. I can think of many box office hits that I dont like. And I can think of many Box office flops that are on my favorite movie list.
As for Star Trek II? Well Its one of my favorite movies. Its a great SCFI movie. Lost track of how many times I scene it? But I know I have scene it way to many times as I have must of the lines spoken by the actors from Trek 2 memorized.

LOL O/T I love Bedazzled, I actually like most of Brendan Fraser's cheesy movies. I've always loved Wrath of Khan, it pretty much makes Star Trek great all by itself in my opinion.

Always thought WoK was overhyped.

To me the best Trek movies are First contact, Generations, Star Trek I, Star Trek VI, and only then WoK.

Without the first 40 minutes, STII:TWoK is just a meaningless light show.

The first 40 minutes set the stage for the whole story in TWoK. It gives a quick background on Khan and his relationship to Kirk (The Wrath of Khan) for the non-Trek audience. It provides a goal for Khan to pursue while trying to take revenge on Kirk with the Genesis device. It quickly updates the audience as to the current status of the TOS crew. Without this setup, the battle wouldn't be as satisfying.

TWoK is still one of the best Sci-Fi movies made.

My Emphasis

The first 40 minutes are called the buildup. This is where a lot of information is imparted to the viewer which the rest of the story builds upon. Ridley Scott did the same with "Alien" and "Blade Runner"... which are other acclaimed classic Sci-Fi movies. However in order to appreciate them fully an attention span is required. This is probably where Star Wars wins out... it is all bang bang and effects from the moment the movie starts.
