We always have been; physical media has never been the most popular form of entertainment.

Cable, satellite, and broadcast TV are far more popular than physical media and streaming subscriptions are just another form of that.

I didn't get my first VCR until 1986 - a year after I started working. Whatever spare cash I had left on my wages generally went on either videos or compact discs as I also loved 70's and 80's music. No doubt about it though, I will always have very fond memories of my video browsing years at my store.

Yeah, but the group seems to keep shrinking.

That's understandable. DVD became popular with the masses because people wanted to be able to watch a larger variety than what happened to be showing on TV at any given time. Streaming provides plenty of variety so most people don't feel the need to buy any physical media.

Convenience will always be more popular than quality or ownership.

Happy days, I still love synth pop/electric synth, it’s by far my favourite genre of music.

We, my family, have several subscriptions including household supplies like coffee and pet medicines. I wouldn't mind having less of the online movies bit as it's not really my thing but It is sometimes nice to suddenly have access to something you want to see. They are all typically useful for someone or all of us. Apple music for example is part of Apple One which is bundle of services including cloud backup and storage. I think Apple Music is the best of the music streaming services.

I prefer physical media and buy a lot of it.

Tubi is free and doesn't require a subscription or even an account. Here they have almost all of the shark movies and have made a few original Tubi shark movies. They have some very new stuff here lately for example Aquaman is on there and Scarface. After Kanopy (free through my library), Tubi is one I use often lately.

I like Tubi as well. I tend to use the free services, but I own my favorites. I consider "favorites" to be things that I think I will watch more than just a handful of times. I keep them all stored away in binders (I only use Case Logic ones) in my basement. When I watch to watch something, I go get it out of there and put it in my BD player. The bitrate and audio quality is significantly better and imo makes for a better viewing experience. Things I just want to watch once I'll either rent or watch them on a free service.

The Star Trek franchise has me in its grips. After knocking out the series finale of Discovery last night, I opened my SNG UK box set on BD and have started watching them again. It's been many years since I've watched the individual seasons, so it'll be like watching them for the first time again.

Damnit! I gave up on Discovery due to its somewhat heavy handed woke moments. Are you saying it is worth it to ride it out to the end?

Having an absolutely amazing time in the UK! I've been in here 6 days and have already put a dent in the 30lbs I lost in the run up..

In EDINBURGH I had

Cullen Skink
Haggis, neeps and tatties
Scotch pie
Maccaronni pie
Scotch eggs
Fish and chips
Sticky Toffee pudding
Scones, whipped cream and jam
Tablet
Sunday roast at the pub
Deep fried Mars bars
Multiple drams of Scotch
Various INNIS & GUNN beers.

I've been in London 24 hours and have subsisted mainly on kebabs and curries as it's the birth place of Indian cuisine...

Aprapos of this thread... I picked up a bluray copy of one of my favourite movies of last year... ALL OF US STRANGERS at HMV today in London.

Sure, why not? I do think it's the weakest of the five seasons, but I actually dug the first four seasons anyway.

I did not care the Moll character, though.

Disagree with Cheez, I thought Discovery was awful, but Strange New Worlds is ace.

Sounds like a good time, you even went for the deep fried Mars bar.

I love SNW and own both seasons on 4K disc. I even bought the new SNW novel that was released from Amazon on Kindle for 99cents.

Rented and watched "Old" on 4K disc from GameFly. I really liked it and the 4K disc video and audio was great. GameFly gave me the option to keep it for $7 and I did.

Yep, saw it at cinema and had to own it in 4K too. It looks and sounds great. Many didn’t like it, but I loved the chaos of it.

Are you familiar with Le Metos? They have a very 80's synth sound and have done the soundtracks for Turbo Kid and Summer of 84.

Have you guys read the graphic novel it was based on? I have and really enjoyed it, but haven't seen the movie yet. I've put off watching it because of the PG-13 rating, whereas some of the themes in the book were very mature, so I'm sure the movie is a watered down version.
