India/Bollywood Kalki 2898 AD (2024)

This is supposedly among the most expensive Bollywood movies ever made. It opens worldwide on June 26th, 2024 (a few US theaters will be showing it in IMAX. Nobody here seems to be showing the 3D version).

The cast includes Deepika Padukone, who is reportedly India's highest-paid actress.

The official synopsis:

Quote:
In 2898 AD, the desertified city of Kasi is now the only city known to exist, ruled by a totalitarian elite, led by god king Supreme Yaskin, from a hovering inverted-pyramidal-megastructure above the city, known as the "Complex". Set against the backdrop of ancient Indian Hindu mythology and a dystopian society, the story chronicles the journey spanning millennia, from the events of the Mahabharata in the year 3102 BC, the beginning of Kali Yuga, to 2898 AD. The core of the narrative revolves around the arrival of enigmatic figure of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of the Hindu deity, Vishnu.

I saw this today and was the only one in the theater. That's unfortunate as it was an enjoyable film with an incredible amount of imagery. A lot of it is CGI so temper expectations. The Regal I go to is playing this in 3 different languages. This is the first film I've seen since The Hateful Eight that actually had an intermision during the movie. The last several Bollywood films I went to had the intermission flash on the screen but the theater simply continued playing the the rest of the film. My biggest complaint is that the movie ends with a cliffhanger and I didn't realize it was part 1.

Deepika Padukone was also in Jawan and Fighter which I was able to see in the theater as well. This is the first Bollywood film that didn't really have any song and dance scenes tossed in. It seemed like they were going to do it twice but both times it was cut short. 8/10.

Good to hear, thanks.
I normally don't go to theaters to see Bollywood films unless they're in 3D, and so far have seen probably 8 action Bollywood 3D films and have yet to be disappointed by the film or the 3D. Hearing this is entertaining also is good news, as it's a 3 hour runtime investment of time to consider. 3D of the films I've seen has consistently been good, mostly medium 3D layers, and some strong 3D too. Hopefully this one too.

It's playing at Cinemark theaters in 3D (check your local theater) so that's cool too. May have to check it out. The trailer looks like it has potential with the blue and red lasers, which is something I really like to see in a sci-fi fantasy genre movie.

Correction- it’s not a bollywood(hindi) film. It’s originally a telugu film dubbed in other languages.

Kalki looks like an entertaining movie, so I went to go attempt to see this film but was shocked when I saw the ticket price at the theater. Almost $25 per ticket. For two tickets, that would've been $50. I declined the tickets. I asked, why so expensive? And the Ticket woman said it was a special event.

I saw quite a few Bollywood 3D films at 2.5 hours each, and they were all reasonably priced. Why is Cinemark ripping off patrons per ticket for Kalki 3D? It's not like I'm at a theme park theater. No way am I paying that much. That's the price of a Blu ray new release! Outrageous pricing and I'll vote with my wallet. No sale, but who is responsible for the pricing? The producers, or theaters?

Was looking forward to seeing Kalki in 3D, but not for that much money. Oh well.

That is expensive. If I didn't have the Regal Unlimited pass it would have been $17.00 for a 2D showing. There wasn't any charge with the pass.

Thanks. Yes, I was wondering about that for your showing, remembering you have a membership deal that makes it worthwhile.

If she said $17, I would've been like, "Well, that's a lot, but okay, it's better than the other price".

My Regal theater, no showtimes for Kalki. Only Cinemark.

Sounds like you really enjoyed the film and hoping it does well.
It only played 1 week at my theater and then it was gone for some reason.

The local Regal held this over for a second week. It did drop from 3 languages to one and is only playing in Tamil now.
