So far this year I’ve beaten either for the first time or a replay:
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gotham Knights Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Tunic Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Stellar Blade All on PS5 so far, my Switch has been dormant this year and probably will remain that way outside of the new Zelda game in the fall as it winds down its life cycle. I keep meaning to sign up for the Switch Online expansion pass to play some of the games I am interested in revisiting but I haven’t had a gap in newer games long enough yet to make that worth it. I’m not a subscription service type of person, so when I sign up I make sure I’ll get the use out of it that I need and then cancel when done. |

Octopath Traveler - I think I might actually like this one more than the sequel overall, though Hikari from the original is still my favorite of the 16 playable characters. Shame it took so long to get onto the PS5 but was worth the wait. Jedi Survivor - I really did not care for this game. It cleaned up some of the rough edges of the original but introduced a ton of its own. On a technical level the game feels like it is held together by chewing gum. Ghost of Tsushima - My third time playing through this one, such a fantastic game. Sucker Punch really needs more recognition among the Sony 1st Party studios. Trails of Cold Steel 1-4 / Trails into Reverie - Yowza did this eat up a TON of my time the last few months (354 hours to be precise). I had interest in this series before but never got into it since it seemed like the barrier to entry was so high being such a long running series (starting in 2004). But with Trails through Daybreak launching in the West this year and its sequel coming in February I finally took the plunge and started with these games. I am VERY glad I did. Yes, most of the games could probably be trimmed by 10-15 hours each and the side quests are almost entirely uninteresting/unneeded, but the main story and characters are where the series shines. The world building and character development of this series is fantastic. Multiple times I would think that there are too many characters (by the end of Trails into Reverie you have a team of FORTY playable characters to choose from), but I honestly don't know which ones I would cut because they all have their strong points. Now that does become an issue where some get shortchanged in different games because there just isn't enough time to devote to them all, but across the series as a whole you come to love most of them. Of all of the characters introduced in the Cold Steel games and not having been in the Trails in the Sky or Crossbell games, I really only didn't care for two of them which I'd say is a remarkable achievement. There were multiple points where something would happen in a main story cutscene where I'd even find myself shouting "YES!!" out loud with excitement or "NOO!!" when something tragic happened. Any game(s) that can get me that emotionally invested has my respect. Astro Bot - A fun little platformer. I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as the internet seemed to. I'd play a sequel though. |
