The ideal way to watch this series for me: Pitch Black theatrical cut-->Chronicles director's cut-->Riddick director's cut. Pitch Black unrated has some inconsistancies in regards to Johns character especially after one watches the third film, in addition to the extra Johns dialgue clashing with another scene later in the very same film, so I never watch it. Chronicles theatrical cut was just bad in the theater, and I'm not sure I saw it since because the HD DVD is only the longer cut and that's still the copy I rock. Shame only the TC gets Atmos then. Riddick is just better in the longer cut, especially if one was invested in the Chronicles lore, plus the cliffhanger in the extended cut is epic!

Curious what the extra aspect ratio version is about, but pretty cool, Arrow always goes the extra mile.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!! Not thrilled about a 1.78 version being in there, that's a bit turbiney (what next? Auro remixes ) but so happy it's coming out on 4K and with both cuts.

Also the DTS track for Chronicles has one of the best LFE tracks of all time, it will move your home at reference on a powerful sub, so I'm not even sweating an Atmos upgrade

Wouldn't surprise me if Kino does the third film. Shout could do a decent disc I suppose, none of them will put the extended cut on a UHD except Arrow, so we're ****ed on getting the bells and whistles (see: World War Z). The Blu ray is still gucci 2kay so I'm not much worried.

The 1080p release did come with a nice velvety slip though.

Pretty sure they existed. Think messed up Cathy's Curse slip where instead of including it all messed up, they trashed it. The BD release still had one.


I bought the BD and made a combo pack using the BD's slip.

A guess at this point, but in the 2000s a lot of 2.39 movies had 1.78 versions (sometimes including VFX shots) that were network & cable TV friendly. The image could fill people's new HDTVs without cropping the sides, and the networks aren't the biggest fans of letterboxing.

It's less common in the streaming era and it's not the filmmaker's intended way to watch a movie, but I won't complain about getting more bonus features. Also like the fact that they included the game cutscenes. Very much an Arrow extra mile effort.

Since it's universal I would guess Shout is the leader in speculation.

Those interactive behind the scenes clips were on the Best Buy exclusive bonus DVD, back then. They’re barely edited and quite boring but still rounding everything up like this is appreciated. I’m in.

I'm curious as to how they achieved that. If they merely cropped the original, this once I'd have to agree with you
