Ooh that exclusive art is lush, if not a bit busy with text and logos. My US steel arrived yesterday so unfortunately I'll be skipping this.

I'll give you one better: Does anyone know Elysian Film Group and how they handle their releases?

Gosh the US blu ray of this really got a subpar bitrate. Pretty shocking considering 2024 and the scale of this release. Guess the Japanese blu ray will be the best blu ray release, this seems to generally be the case with Ghibli blu ray discs.

According to this post the GKIDS Blu-ray has better encoding than the Japanese Blu-ray. I would really like to see a comparison of the US and Japanese UHD Blu-rays.

Is that correct? The site here says 22mbps.

1.5mpbs difference I’d probably still expect the Japanese to get the edge based on precedence, but would certainly be a sign that the U.S. disc will be fine.

The average bitrate doesn't matter here as much as the peak bitrate for the parts that need it. Also, there are more factors than just the bitrate when it comes to determining the PQ.

I agree. So 22 is the average and not the peak. My bad.

Do we know the nature of the flaw?

As I understand, the DV layer is out of sync

Nope, not even close. Basically, someone at Panasonic accidently removed DV specific metadata after the twenty minute mark, so an already questionable HDR grade was made substantially worse by this error.

Additionally, the encode has a few corrupted frames in spots. I swear Panasonic must've been spread too thin, with these errors and the pretty poor compression on the 1080p BD. The GKids UHD lacks the DV error and corrupted frames, and their 1080p BD fights for better compression throughout: sometimes one is better, then vice versa.

Looks like rating logos (and Japanese title) are on a OBI strip

Do we - by any chance - know what will be the audio options on the UK release?

Blu-ray.com database seems to suggest UK version would be port of US disc. Same audio and subtitle options.

That might just be because it was copied from the US one - the copy brings all the specs over.

However, when it does appear, it would be easy to confirm if it repeats the jump-back-to-the-start behaviour of the US disk (which only seems to manifest on some players).

Dispatched from Rarewaves. I'm really curious to see the details of the disc, will write as soon as I get it.

Okay, it has Japanese and English Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision on the 100 GB UHD. The BD only has 7.1 DTS-HD MA.
