Sheesh, this is like a committee meeting in the Marketing Dept.

Anyone else with an opinion?
I say late January, should be a hit too much like Watchmen was a surprise hit this year.

I would aim for whichever date my focus group thought would work and hope for the best. If you always let other studios affect your dates, you'll never release anything.

I thought Watchmen underperformed for all the marketing and hype ("From the guy who brought you 300!")

I like the BD/DVD combo before Christmas, DVD only after Christmas idea, whether they choose this or not.

Yes and No. Right now you have the bigger titles already announced for the holiday season. You know the release dates for Star Trek and supposedly Transformers 2. The only other real variable in this market segment is Terminator Salvation and Harry Potter. So as long as you don't release the same day as Star Trek, Transformers and Potter, I think you'd hold up just fine.

I’m always fearful of opening the door to those ‘focus groups’ in the Marketing Dept…..

Anyone for bundling a barebones copy of it with this baby over the holiday or post holiday season?
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3284

Would that be a good or bad business decision?

Based on the PS3 demographic and the success of the film within the same, I say good.

Glad to see you're feeling better Max

Definately SCE is on the game push, hardcore this year

District 9 is not going to have the long term play with that audience. It's not popcorn enough, and its rated R, which pretty much nixes it right there since junior is going to find it under the tree.

Frankly, I don't think it deserved an R, but you know how those people get

Max is back!
Hey, I can’t comment on those things.
Amy would not be thrilled.

I'm still surprised this hasn't happened yet, considering ID4's success.

I dunno, I think Michael Bay's movies are a lot like ID4. Cheesy jokes, weird speeches and lots of explosions. Emmerich just doesn't make a lot of movies.

Please do not soil Michael Bay's name by associating him with Roland Emmerich. Bay wipes the floor with him in every way I love Stargate, and I'm sure Mr. Emmerich is a nice person, but he's simply outclassed in this case

I honestly can't believe that they never got Independence Day 2 off the ground.

I would also like to add since we're talking District 9 marketing

Please, no noggin filled covers

There is not a single internationally recognizeable actor in the entire film. W don't need floating heads, something artistic and appropriate please

Yeah. Hard to imagine it's the wisest deal for the buyee.

Surely a villa-load of pesetas, though.

For me, the only silver lining is I don't think he's even had a chance to ride the thing. Should make things a little exciting/unpredictable, at least. Talk about hangin' it out there, career-wise...

I see that our News Staff posted a spiel about The Reel Thing XXII on our News Page ….
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3297

For folks in L.A., it will be a great opportunity to listen and learn from some very fine experts in their respective fields as well as catch a few screenings.

If you happen not to be AMIA member, the student fees for attendance are lower and if you find those also to be a little stiff for your pocketbooks, I think that there are still places left to attend the reception and the premiere screening of the digitally-restored Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” this evening for only $25.

And if you come to the reception, who knows who you might happen to bump into.
