Has anyone heard anything either way regarding 13th Warior? It's a Touchstone which is owned by Disney so...Where the Hell is it. That movie is a must own for me and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The book was much better. The movie was based on Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton which was based partly on the Beowulf tale as well as a real story of an Arab traveler in the 10th century.

I never got around to read the book. Frankly I was so disapointed with the Jurrasic Park books, I never really like the way Crichton wrote his books, just not my style

The original cut of the movie was truer to the book, retained the title of the book, and was scored by Graeme Revell. Test audiences hated it so Crichton had it re-edited, shot new footage himself, hired Jerry Goldsmith to write a new score, and changed the title of the movie.

I'd love a 2-disc BD release with each cut of the movie on its own disc. But I doubt that'll ever happen.

This is an enjoyable film that many are not even aware of. It does a nice job bringing the novel to the big screen. Man, I think I've had the standard dvd for close to 10 years now!! Hopefully a BD release is forthcoming with some nice features.

It's like one of the ultimate guys movies. For me it's right up there with 300. Plus it would look pretty to see the Firevorm in 1080p . Plus it's from the same guy that gave us Die Hard and Predator...come on what's not to like?

I dunno. I considered the 300 way to fanciful (note, I do own it). The 13th warrior was a movie taking myth and legend (ie a book) and making it real. The 300 took fact and made it fantasy. Honestly, all the years spent studying history just revolted at the idea of fact becoming fantasy. Especially when those fanciful touches barely added to the movie. The truth was insane enough.

300 was not based on fact, it was based on legend. Anyways, if you guys like 13th warrior better... then I guess to each his own.

Now this is funny. Granted 300 is much more artistic than 13th Warrior, but they are both in the same genre. It was kind of relative. 13 vs. hundreds and 300 vs. thousands. I simply love both movies and own both movies. I can't believe someone that liked 300 so much is "ehh" with 13th warrior. 13th warrior is a much more grounded and believable film even being legend. 300 is so stylized that it is a hard sell for some people to enjoy. When you break it down both movies are about an elite group of warriors defending their people against overwhelming odds. So yeah they are comparable .

I'll start by saying that both these movies are amazing and i do own both.

Think about it relatively... how sick was 13th warrior for it's time, the story was unique, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, the action scenes were awesome and they really developped most of the characters. I know that when compared to the advanced effects of 300 (not to mention it was a Frank Miller flick so you know its gonna be gruesome and graphic) its not gonna seem as good. I'm even gonna go so far as to say that i PREFER 13th warrior over 300... lol.. k well lets not get carried away. Obviously people are going to think that 300 is a better movie but you gotta think of it relatively, when the movie came out 8 years ago cinematic technology was nowhere near where it is not.
13th warrior just has nostalgic meaning to me and seriously when is it coming out on blu-ray.
P.s. after seeing this post i did some digging and i never realised how badly 13th warrior did at the box office lol. i can't verify the credibility of this site but apparently 13th warrior holds the record of losing the most money at the box office

thx for reading my book. i'll be holding an autograph session the 30st of September lol

I wouldn't compare 300 to 13th Warrior either because 13th Warrior is a thousand times better IMO. I love that movie and can't wait to buy it on Blu.

For me its all about the characters. Antonio Banderas and the vikings had kind of a nobility to them.I actually cared about what happened to them.

I did not care about the Spartans at all in 300. They we're just too arrogant for my taste.

Anyways that's my take on it. Oh yeah and I prefer the score of 13th Warrior as well. (Even though 300's score was not bad either)

Agree. 13 Warrior didn't do anything for me. I had difficulty even finishing it.

It looks like from mredman's link that this release of 13th Warrior is Region Free. Says Region Code A, B & C. Can anyone confirm that please? Thanks =)
