Default Funny Girl 4K UHD (Criterion) (1968)

Funny Girl 4K Blu-ray

Funny Girl 4K Blu-ray

Funny Girl 4K Blu-ray

Over the last week, the owner of the best Barbra Streisand website (Barbra Archives) has been dropping hints at the Home Theater Forum that a Funny Girl 4K UHD is about to get announced. Criterion would seem to be the most likely label to release it.

Quote:
FUNNY GIRL 4K is on its way in 2024 and should be announced very soon. Not from Sony though
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/com...4#post-5348536

Quote:
Stay tuned. it's coming.
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/com...3#post-5349077

He also seems to be hinting that Barbra Streisand is involved in the extras:

Quote:
oscar winning actress has participated [in the extras]
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/com...5#post-5349078

The owner of the website is one of the top experts on Barbra Streisand and can be trusted. When Barbra Streisand's people need to fact check stuff about her career, they go to him:

Quote:
Although this website is not officiated by Miss Streisand, her colleagues, nor Columbia Records, I do help Team Barbra from time to time. I was a research assistant on the Release Me albums and the 50th Anniversary Funny Girl album, and I provided some photo research and fact-checking for Barbra's latest tours and tour programs.

Great news. Almost certainly Criterion if Sony isn't doing it themselves.

They could have put this in Columbia Classics Vol. 6. It would have made a great addition.

YES!! Funny Girl's one of my all-time favorite films, and with each new Columbia Classics set, I've been impatiently tapping my feet waiting for it to be included. Making it a Criterion is an option I honestly dreamed of but never expected.

If Babs is involved in the extras, I'm hoping it includes all the deleted scenes which I assume she has in her collection. I know for a fact the extended "Swan Lake" and the Fanny and Nick conversation were loaned from her to AFI for their tribute, and those ended up (along with a lot of deleted audio and stills) on the Barbra Archives site:

https://www.barbra-archives.info/fun...ased-streisand

Since the owner of that site is the one breaking this news, I hope his connection to it means those scenes will finally see the light of day. Babs herself said in her autobiography that she wanted to put back the complete "Swan Lake" number into the film the same way she had Sony extend The Way We Were. Let's see if Criterion is willing to do that.

Default Funny Girl??

It would make more sense for Criterion to do Nuts orThe Owl and the Pussycat or What’s Up Doc I’m thinking.

I was thinking the same that it would make for a great set. Funny Lady doesn't currently have a Blu-ray available in any territory after the 2014 Twilight Time sold out.

Was fate responsible for Criterion releasing the 4K UHD? The movie had its world premiere at...the Criterion Theatre in New York City on September 18, 1968:

Criterion doesn’t always preserve original theatrical art, but they did the same for The Prince of Tides. Some of their other 60s titles also retain original posters.

Happily picking this up! Shocked I still don't have a Barbra movie in my collection! I guess her first will be my first!

An amazing line-up from Criterion.

I have the Blu-Ray but will definitely get this. Can't lie, I was hoping for more deleted scenes.
