I will stick with my 80gb but if it craps out I might pick one up.

I really want one, but can't justify spending £249 on it when my 60gb still works perfectly.

Oh well

Mine failed. And considering the number of "How to fix your PS3" threads, I'd say I'm not the only one. I don't know at what rate they fail, so I suppose it could be as few as one in 10,000.

That sucks. A friend of mine had his fail too. But it is rather uncommon at least compared to a certain other device.

A recent sampling of 5,000 people, being discussed in the off topic section, puts the failure rate at 10.6%. I would guess that includes all of the types of failures we have seen including the YLoD and failure to read BD's while still reading other types of discs. Mine failed too.

Sounds about right. Mine wouldn't read discs.

What's the main difference between a regular PS3 and slim PS3?
(Other than the fact that it's smaller)

I'm pretty sure I'll just keep what I have now regardless.
Seems pointless to buy something I already have and works perfectly fine

Bitstream audio, quieter, less power.

Well they just annouced today that it bitstreams HD audio.
Might be other tricks that will trickle out to the public in the next couple of weeks.

The lower power consumption is also a plus as that means less heat on the hardware = less wear = longer component life

Who knows, maybe there's a REON or Anchory bay chip in there.
(Hey, one can dream...)

btw:
I was a Frys, Best Buy and Walmart and all were either sold out of the current model PS3 or perhaps Sony took them back.
