Is this to imply that one should connect their 4K player directly to the TV and not connect it to the soundbar?

Out of the 50 or so 4K discs I've watched on this player only 1 recently froze (The Last Horror Film) and that's because it had about a one inch scratch, replacement disc played fine.

Not saying it's better, that's just what works for me. Never even thought about connecting to my soundbar.

I did notice improvement in sound when I plugged it straight to the TV and just used the eARC instead of HDMI IN. Beforehand, atmos would have strong dialogue, but weak action. Now it's

Depends on the equipment. If you have a Samsung TV made after 2018 then you'll need to connect one HDMI cable to the TV and a 2nd HDMI to the soundbar (and then tell the soundbar to use HDMI rather than ARC when using the X700).

If you only plug one HDMI in (regardless if it's to the TV or to the soundbar [since the audio will still get routed to the TV before coming back to the soundbar via ARC]) then DTS [vs Dolby] discs will only play in 2.0 stereo (vs. the 3.1 or 5.1 that most decent soundbars can do).

This is less obvious on the X700 since its status screen doesn't show what it outputs (it only shows what's on the disc). The X800M2 has a separate line/section for output that makes this more apparent.

I don't have an x700, used to, but i traded up. I just noticed a method expresses on here that had me curious. As far as I could tell, going thru eARC still produces full surround with Atmos and DTS X recognized on both TV, soundbar, and my 820. I suppose it helped to set passthrough to on. I'd have to do more poking around, but I definitely noticed better sound activity.

Just received my X700, although I have UB420 I wanted DV. My issue is I can't locate Picture quality mode at all. I read that when you play a disc click options and select it however I don't see it I see A/V sync, audio, angle etc but not Picture mode. I checked the firmware and it's on the latest one. Any advice?

Edit: I was able to find it, DV was enabled so I couldn't find it. I guess that means it doesn't affect DV content.

Who else is still wishing / praying / hoping sony would release a firmware update that we no longer have to go to settings > picture > Dolby Vision to turn this on and off?

I had a programmable remote at one point. I built a macro / series of functions to do this. But it never worked properly. There was either a delay on the remote, or the player, and I could never find the right sweet spot to get it to work.

Ok - it only take 10 seconds to do, but I want it done NOW!

I actually sold this player because of all the problems it has. Sony's 4K blu ray players are terrible quality anymore. I would stay clear of this player.Don't buy this at all. I had nothing problems with this piece of junk. Sony call this a great player no way. Most of the disc's don't even play in this player. Complete junk of a player. I wish that Sony would release new models of a 4K blu ray player with better hardware in them.

Ever since I followed the instructions in this video, I never had to mess with the Dolby Vision settings - the player automatically selected them based on the disc. You might want to do the same.

If you go to the 4:24 mark in the above video, you'll see the initial list that includes the option called Screen Settings - the Dolby Vision setting for "on" or "off" is in there.

Maybe I have used wrong for years - but turning that to on sort of “forces” DV output even if disc does not have DV. Even if I play a BD the movie will output DV.
I would have to test again. But has anybody else had success with this?? If so then that would be great!!!
