These two posts over at Criterionforum just made my day:

David’s reputation really is in a league of its own. Soon he’ll be knighted Sir David M.

No 3d, no Atmos, no buy!

But really, like... wow never would have expected this!
Wouldn't it be glorious if this was only the beginning of potential future standup releases?

Never would have expected this, but I'll take it.

The old HD transfer that's available digitally is not too great. The documentary "Omit The Logic" includes clips from this film that seem much more recently transferred, and I was really surprised how much better they looked.

At any rate, this really is one of my favorite recorded standup performances. Pryor had a real gift for taking very dark and depressing stories, and making them funny without trivializing them.

I also hope this leads to more comedy specials getting the 4K treatment…

Sam Kinison - Breaking the Rules (one of my all time favorites)
Eddie Murphy - Raw and Delirious
George Carlin - Pretty much all of them
Andrew Dice Clay - The Diceman Cometh (and Ford Fairlane while we’re at it)
Dave Chapelle - Killin’ Them Softly and For What It’s Worth

….and many more.

Unlikely on a lot of those since Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip was shot on film and released theatrically. Some of the others you mention are just shot on SD videotape that aired on HBO.

Yeah I like that neat little time-capsule detail. I was surprised to find that the main menu graphic of the Region B Blu has Neighbors rather than Annie on the billboard. I'm assuming there were two variants for maximum advertising potential, an advance poster featuring Neighbors then the release poster with Annie (Neighbors' release having preceded Annie by six months)?

Oh and for anyone who'd rather not wait for the 4K, the Region B can be had cheaply and looks and sounds great.

Yeah Live in Concert is his epic 11/10 performance. Live on Sunset Strip is maybe a 9/10.
It's like comparing Eddie Murphy's Delirious to Raw

Honestly I’ve no idea who did. I’m on Criterionforum but only casually and pretty much exclusively in the UHD thread. If I see your old reviews being referenced, I’ll let them know.

I saw this when it first came out. It's not his best material. If you haven't seen it, all the clips are on YouTube. If you have seen it, why not rent it instead of buying it? I mean, how many more times are you going to watch it?

Huge ball drop from Sony for not including a blu ray with this. Makes no sense

Not all of us are set up for 4K, so would be nice to get a blu ray since it's never been on blu yet

Not in the U.S., but the Region B UK edition can be had for peanuts and looks great.
