Go for the unrated. can only improve the theatrical. I wasnt a huge fan of this movie but it works when im in a mood for a senseless action flick.

Harrison Ford looked like he was 90 in this film. Was this shot before or after The Force Awakens (where he looks and moves around closer to a 70 year old).

Seriously?
WTF?
I just got the UHD version and it only has the THEATRICAL version on the UHD!

And of course, now that it is open, I can't return it!

I'm all for extended cuts and such but honestly, in this movie does it really make a difference?

I haven't seen it yet.
I purposely waited for video to watch it, because I didn't feel like paying theater prices to watch a gimped copy.

I only saw it on Blu-ray so I don't know what the differences are, but I image its just a line or two of dialog and some extra CGI blood. My understanding is they trimmed just enough to get to PG-13. It's not like theres extra story or anything.

The only recent movie I can think of that is massively different with a extended cut is Batman v Superman. The theatrical version felt like it was missing giant pieces, because it was.

X-Men Days of Future Past had the 'Rogue Cut' which didn't make its way to 4K either. I didn't care as all the extra Rogue scenes didn't add anything to the story...which is why they were cut out in the first place.

I wouldn't worry about it.

It still, though, would be nice to watch the full version on the higher quality format.

Here's a detailed list of the additions and changes on the extended cut:

Finally giving this a proper viewing and WOW. This is really dumb even by Expendables standards.

They should have stuck with the old dudes instead of focusing on the bland and cringeworthy newbies.

You know what I'm talking about.

I rewatched my blu-rays of the Expendables trilogy recently, I my ratings have changed. 2 is still the best, but I'd put 3 ahead of the first one. Probably because 3 feels more in line with the style of 2, and the addition of Snipes, Gibson, Ford, and Banderas make the film really fun. The first is still good if you're looking for a more serious take on the material.

Regarding the young newbies, Glen Powell's career really took off, and I'm fairly certain this was the first film I saw him in. On the flip side, Rhonda Rousey was really being pushed as the future female action star, including her leading the Roadhouse remake years ago, but that never came to much.

I guess 3 acts as a decent ending to the series. I pretend 4 doesn't exist. Still, I think there was more opportunity for at least one more great film, with maybe some new additions like Kurt Russell, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Sigourney Weaver, and a few others.

Hard agree with the bolded line quoted above. The Trilogy is pretty great just the way it is; it leaves me wanting for nothing.

These flicks are the perfect embodiment of a "Guilty Pleasure" for me. I know that term triggers a lot of folks, but I personally feel no actual "shame" in liking movies to which I apply that label; they're simply films that I acknowledge are cotton candy rather than steak dinners.

The Expendables movies remind me of when I was a kid growing up in Reagan's America of the 80's, watching Rambo and reading incredibly gory ("Guilty Pleasure") Able Team books about special forces goin' in and kicking bad-guy butt. Good clean fun. Best viewed with whiskey.

Yeah, it's really just a DTV style sequel you'd find in the bargain bin back in the 2000's. Most of the old cast is gone or in limited roles, and most the new ones are cheap replacements. Both the story and action is far below the other films.

Actually those might be better, in part because they were more sincere and weren't trying or claiming to be something they're not...

My memory is that 3 at least in the unrated version, is a decent enough 3rd installment, although moving away from the bloodiness of 2 in a misguided attempt to get "the kids" into these geezer action stars and younger C-listers was definitely a mistake. Snipes, Banderas and Gibson all added a lot of fun it, I quite like the ending showdown actually.

The unrated edition adds just enough blood/violence that it doesn't feel *too* toned down whereas I remember sitting in the theater noticing how it felt less violent. Funny what difference a little cgi blood and extra shooting/stabbing makes.
